I had a t-shirt idea I was thinking of launching through my website, but a friend thought it might be offensive and I wanted to get some impartial opinions.

So I have these two characters in my comic who act sexually ambiguous towards each other, and one person flat out asks if they're gay. One of them replies "I'm Gay for HER". I was thinking of putting that on a shirt and selling it.

Could go in a few different ways. Could be "I'm Gay for Her", or alternately "I'm Gay for Him", or the universal "I'm Gay for You". But my friend thought that would imply it's only okay to be gay for someone if they're really really hot, as opposed to just being gay in general.

I don't think it comes off that way, but what do you think?

Kinda tricky. I don't see it as offending but there probably will be a few people offended. I guess it will depend on who you sell it to.

Personally, I do not find it incredibly offensive at all. In fact, I'd buy that shirt. It picks up on a trend in a cheeky kind of way.

No, that totally didn't occur to me.
I mean, there are lots of reasons to be exclusively gay for someone besides hotness. General awesomeness, for example.

'I'm asexual for her' would be even more awesome, damnit. 8)

actually that's one of the other shirt ideas I had. the logo for the Asexual Awareness Association, with the phrase "Some Are Gay, Some are Straight, Some Don't Get Laid At All" on the back in latin. it's a long story where I came up with that.

btw, extrapolating on your idea, "I'm Omnisexual for Everything"

i have no idea if it's offensive or not. but (according to labels), i'm queer, and i love the idea. (but then, i'm also a "queer" person who's really exhausted with labels.) does that make sense?

my point: i think sexuality--or lack of it-- is personal, individual and (at times) very fluid--changes and shifts. i love it. i love it. i love it.

(one of my mantras: don't assume. don't assume. don't assume. that means in regards to orientation as well.)

I don't even get what it means to know if it's offensive or not.

Is it offensive?

No.

Nothing is absolutely offensive.

Could it offend some people?

Absolutely.

Offensiveness is one of those things that is relative to the individual, so all you're getting here is subjective opinion, but maybe that's all you were looking for.

The qualification police have spoken.

That's a great idea for a shirt, I doubt anyone would be offended (all the gays I've even known are pretty down to earth, they don't wave pitchforks at the slightest verbal slipup or joke)
