People will knock on my door, but they won't wait until I give an answer. They just stroll right in. The doorknobs on my bathroom have come off, and they keep coming off, so I have to put a shirt through the hole to get some privacy!

examples where my privacy has not been given recently:

1. My brother, home getting something for a college project decided to just stroll through my bedroom to say goodbye to me, without knocking. I was in the middle of changing and his missed seeing me naked by seconds, literally.

2. Just now. Um, I had no pants on, I was exercising and watching a TV show on my computer. I hear my mother calling me from the hallway, saying she and my stepdad are going out. I call out "don't come in, I don't have pants on!" I hear her coming closer, so I say again, "I don't have pants on!" and she walks right in without knocking, not understanding what I said. and I say "I said I don't have pants on!" My mom was obviously embarrassed, and when I came out a few seconds later with pants on my mom says "what were you doing in there?" like she honestly thought something was up, and I expalined, and she looked even more embarrassed, and said "I thought you were snapping pictures or something!"

and the sad thing, is my mother who i seriously doubt would ever believe that, seemed to believe that.

any tips on getting more privacy? in two months i'll be turning 18. I really think i'm at the age where I need more privacy. I (and my family) cannot afford to buy a lock right now.

As long as you continue to live in someone else's home (i.e., your parents'), you can expect to have no physical privacy.

Only your thoughts are your own.

Either move out, or find the wherewithall to pay for your own privacy and security measures.

it must be such crap to be aspie in a country w a undeveloped welfare system...

i read a wiki-article in spanish about it, where it said that homeless people have often turned out to be aspies, in spain. NO clue where this statement originates from, but i think it makes sense.

ive always known, if it wasnt for Norway, i would be 1) at home w my mother/dads place or 2) on the street

right now i am recieving norway's ordinary basic minimum survival pay, this is lower than unemployment pay, and is the minimum required to avoid homeless people.
i had to find myself a flat, get the papers for it, and the gvt pays for it.
now that i am getting myself diagnosed, they are promising me a doubled and "real" unemployment pay.

so...

as a norwegian, i'd just tell you to "move the hell out", but seeing your in california, i suspect that such an advice wouldnt be very helpful, or what?

Ha! How funny (in a coincidental way, not a "ha-ha" way). That second situation isn't anything new in either of the Griffin households, lol :P particularly if it's me who isn't wearing them. In the morning my dad will usually come out with a shirt on but no pants. As for my mom, I think she likes wearing all her clothes all the time, from what I can see (except shoes and socks, lol) Fortunately my parents know that sometimes I'm in my room without much on (though never completely naked unless I'm changing). My mom ALWAYS asks me if she can come in if the door is closed (it doesn't have a lock either so I always put up a "Do Not Disturb" sign), even if I'm wearing everything but shoes and socks (which sometimes I am in my room with the door closed, particularly if it's a cold or rainy day). Maybe you could ask your parents for one. Thank goodness I don't have siblings who've seen me (almost) naked. From what you've posted about your brother on here, he sounds like a jerk anyway (so DON'T LET HIM READ THIS, lol j/k he can if he wants to but I don't see why he would or why you'd let him).

BTW, in case yer wondering how I found this it's 'cuz I was curious to see what you've posted on here, not 'cuz I'm some creepazoid from outer space, lol. It's all pretty cool, but for whatever weird reason this was the first one where I thought to myself, "Hey I can totally relate to this!" :D

Start setting traps in your room, attached to the door (non dangerous ones ;)). Or start doing the same, wait untill they do something privat and just rush in to say something stupid. People tend to not understand unless you really hit them on the head.

And why did you respond "I don't have any pants on."? Why not "Ok, have fun."?

Talk to them about it, lock your door, or put a sign 'please knock'. If it still happens, move out.

Alternately, let them catch you starkers. 8O :silent:  They will think twice about barging in again after that 8)

Seriously though, that sucks. I hate having no privacy

Put a dresser or chair or something in front of the door, so no one can open it from the outside.

I know what you mean, ShadesOfMe. People just barge into my room too, and sometimes I'm like, "Don't come in, I'm getting changed!" but they just barge in anyway, so I rush over and hold the door shut, then I tell them to go away (or words to that effect!).

The annoying thing is that my mum gets pissed off and acts like it's unreasonable for me to ask that she respect my privacy.

Of course, these sort of embarrasing things never happen to me, since I'm as well-dressed in school as I am on a day off with only me sitting in my room all day, I wear pyjamas both during the coldest of winters as the hottest of summers, and the only time I'm naked is when I shower, and I shower down in the basement instead of the shower upstairs since I find the basement shower to be warmer.

Also, I never masturbate.

We're very alike that way, I get dressed as soon as I get up, and undress only when I go to bed. (Still, I have no problem being seen in my underware.)

Wow you're pretty brave! Around either gender (I'm a guy) it's odd being in my underwear around another person - around another guy it's just odd, and around a girl I'd ONLY do it if we were in an extremely intimate relationship (and that whichever girlfriend I had was OK with it) No one's really seen me like that that I know except my parents (when I was little, lol :P ) and my doctors (of course I'm talking medicinal doctors here, not psychologists, lol :P ) And I used to have qualms as a kid being seen by a doctor in my underwear 'cuz I thought they were doing something illegal to me back then. It didn't occur to me they had to check parts of my naked body in order to see how those parts were functioning. Also for some reason I thought that the only part "down below" that they checked was the heart and I didn't see why they couldn't just check it over my shirt. Of course now I have a better understanding of it and I don't mind being seen by a doctor in my underwear 'cuz I realize it's part of their job.

I used to have an apartment where no one could see whether I was home or not, and a phone answering machine.

Just because they want to talk to me doesn't mean I want to talk to them.

100 years ago rich people had butlers to answer the door.

The butler would say "Mr Jones is not 'at home'"

"At Home". What does that mean?
Well Mr Jones might very well be in his house but he does not want to see anyone so sod off and make an appointment.

easier than setting traps is to find a chair tall enough and wedge the back under the knob after you shut the door

this makes it so people not on your side of the door is not able to open the door unless they take the door off

When I was living at home with my parents in Vegreville a year ago, I had the same issue in regards to privacy, but luckily, so far I now have enjoyed a year of full privacy since I rent a room here in Red Deer and am three hours away from my parents and nobody enters without permission.I can also lock my door.

Well, I've been swiming quite a lot, so it kind of connected underware -> swimsuit, it's not like I'm walking around in my underware, but I don't really care if someone see me do it.

Nasty doctors you have. ;)
