For 2000 - 2004?

The music, definitely.

Well, there's the decline of cinema, the dawn of social networking, a metric ton of celebrity deaths, and this.

Ah, the naughties.

"OHHhhhhh....

That innocent bygone era of the years starting with zero!

It was such a simpler time...by cracky!"

Someday folks will be saying that I suppose.

Though its hard to imagine why they would now.

Well...all of you young folks will have to explain to your grandkids why you got tattoos.

Hmm, I might be telling stories like this:

"I was born in a year with a '1' at the start of it. I was born in a different millennium! 8O I remember the start of the new one: me, I was only 15 years old, and people were afraid that all our computers and electricity and everything in our homes would shut off and we'd be back in the Stone Age! My father filled our bathtub with water, in case the water shut off, and we had candles and torches and tinned food in case we needed them. But we didn't need to worry: everything worked out fine, and the world didn't end, and we carried on as normal.

"Science, medicine and technology weren't as good as they are now. We had the Internet and computers, and fancy things called laptops, smartphones, Playstations and ipads. Well, we thought they were fancy and hi-tech! People died from all sorts of diseases that you probably haven't heard of today. And we were only just starting to realise that our technology and industry were polluting our planet, and if we didn't stop then we would pay for it later on.

"Back then, the United States of America was the most powerful country in the world, and everyone followed their culture and language (which was originally from England). We had different values back then, too: women could vote and slavery didn't exist (at least in most countries), but for a long time gay couples weren't allowed to marry, and in some places you could be imprisoned or killed just for being in love with someone of the same sex! In fact, there was a time before then (before I was even born) when, in some places, you couldn't marry someone of a different race! I kid you not! :!: You may think that's backwards, but your children and grandchildren will say the same thing about your issues, mark my words.

"Oh, but there are lots of stories about that time ... too many of them for me to tell all at once. What do you know of that period in history?"

All of my turn-of-the-millennium nostalgia will relate to the internet; mainly, how I had to walk uphill in five feet of snow both ways to turn on my modem so I could use Netscape.

We could only download two dimensional stuff back then!

Pictures of cars, and not actual drivable cars like you kids take for granted now!

As always, the low prices, excellent music, memorable films and the good behaviour of youth. It will probably be remembered as a golden era of sporting achievement by many too.

Specific to that decade, it could end up being the last time that regular Joes could afford the most recent technology, and cheap energy will definitely be something people look back on with a sigh.

The golden age of the Internet, before "Web 2.0" turned it into a commercial wasteland. When the top hits in Google contained the information you were after on private websites, not a bunch of huge corporate retailers who happen to be selling whatever keyword you typed in. When immature 12-year-old facebook nonsense only existed in Yahoo chat rooms and nobody in the real world was aware of it. Basically, when the Internet was a research and information sharing tool.
