I don't like using nail clippers so I usually just peel the edge of the nail. This time though, I peeled the whole toenail off! Owww!

You know... I did that exact same thing last night! And ended up with a bloody pinky-toe. But at least I don't have that weird sharp toenail anymore!

Owww!

I once dropped a shuffleboard puck on my little toe... the toenail fell off and it was painful.

I once had an operation to remove an ingrowing toenail and couldn't walk properly for 2 weeks.
It could have been worse,I only noticed at the last minute before the operation that the hospital had written 'right foot' in error instead of 'left foot',otherwise I would have needed
a second operation !

I've lost toenails and fingernails to various traumas. They do grow back in full but slowly. For now, bandage your toe. It is very tender now because of the exposed skin. But in about a week (at least for me, your body may differ) the exposed skin hardens into a faux toenail. Once that happens the bandage can come off. It will probably be well over a month before you have an entire new nail.

Thanks for the advice :D I also put some polysporn on it before putting the bandaid on.
