I'm wondering how many other aspie's are interested in guns, shooting, etc.

Has motor coordination ever been a problem? Focusing aim? I am considering buying a gun but I don't want to carry it unless I am confident I know what I'm doing.

Please don't debate the politics of guns here. Just looking to connect with other aspie's who are into shooting.

Sounds handgun to me.

So how big are you.

First narrow it down to size and weight.

What you can grip and control, Smith and Wesson makes the Ladysmith line, smaller grips.

It does take awareness and practice to be safe, and be able to hit only what you want to.

I am looking into getting a .22 rifle, probably bolt-action because the idea of a semi-auto .22 sounds absurd (though fun). I will never use a lever action again, they pinch! And anything larger than a .22-- the recoil sends the scope shooting into my eye. So yes, coordination (and generally being a girl) makes a .22 an easy choice. I am a decent shot at close range, but take me beyond 25 yards and I'm useless, unless there's a shotgun involved. Shotguns are the Windows of the firearms world-- just point and click. I've also found that I can't control a handgun, even if it's small caliber. I just don't have the motor control for it. I emptied a magazine in the direction of a target at about 5 yards with a .45 Glock (OK, that was not a small handgun) and didn't even hit the paper, let alone the actual target.

I really know nothing about firearms, though I enjoy shooting, but if you are unsure of your ability to handle one, I would suggest going with a .22 (there's no recoil and they are relatively easy to control) and with taking a safety course. Actually, maybe even taking the safety course before you make a purchase.

But yeah, I enjoy plinking.

Ahh, the M1 Garand and the infamous "M1 thumb"... That brings back some memories from gunsmithing school, though I must contend that M1 thumb has nothing on A5 thumb, which usually requires a trip to the hospital.

I shoot a .357 Colt Python revolver in my back yard , as I live in an unincorporated area .... don't have to go to the range....
I just plink when I get into the mood; cans , tomatoes, etc.

I also have a pellet rifle that launches a 28 grain pellet @ 1080 fps and this I use for pest control and plinking .... (I know the velocity because I have a chronograph.)

(We have a chipmunk infestation and they burrow under our paver side walks and it is dropping now due to this.
They also built a tunneling system under the garage now and im looking for a different way to control this now.)

This rifle uses '3000 pound air' to achieve this and it is charged by using a handpump ( looks like one used for bike tires)
It takes 10 pump strokes to achieve 100 psi and after 10 shots the velocity tapers and of course the groups drop .
10 pumps = one shot and it takes all of me to stroke this two stage handpump.

Ive shot 5 shot groups @ one inch spread @ 60 yards; but in the right hands it will shoot one inch @ 100 yards.

The velocity is adjustable between 600 to 1250 feet per second and ive gotten 1250 on a '10 grain' pellet.

It's a long time since I've fired a gun, but I was once a reasonably good shot target-shooting with a rifle (which is intriguing given my usual lack of dexterity.) I've never seen the attraction of handguns, or fired one (well, apart from an Airsoft gun  ), but I'd quite like to do some medium-range (100-300 yard) rifle shooting again, it was nice to be good at something!

Never owned or fired a gun before. However, now that I've moved to Wyoming my dad and I plan to get into big game hunting once we qualify for state residency next year, so I'll need a rifle for that. I would probably want to take safety classes before I decide to handle one, though. Thankfully, I have an uncle two hours away in Longmont who is a certified gun safety instructor; hence I get the "family discount." :P

I haven't been shooting as much as I'd like lately, ammo prices are through the roof due to the "Obama Effect" and some calibers are scarce to boot. I've never encountered any AS related difficulties while shooting, but your results may vary. It's a very enjoyable hobby that I encourage anyone to at least try, it's surprising how many people who never thought they'd like guns turn out to really enjoy shooting.

I used to be very good with a rifle, shot on my college team for 3 years. Not interested much these days, which is ironic as I could hunt deer, elk, quail and coyotes from my porch. Still have my Ruger Mark I with the target barrel, hasn't been out of the box in years.

I dont have a gun but I'd like to own one and try shooting someday.

I got to hold a few cool ones when I was on vacation in Texas.

As for aspie coordination...I'd like to see how I can handle it. I've never been able to do things like properly serve a volleyball but I have gotten better at other things like driving (a van anyway). I dont think I am gonna be superb at this but I'm thinking of maybe training at a shooting range and see how things go for there.

I have never been shooting, though I can't deny an interest. No interest in hunting though. Target shooting would be fun.

I like shooting, but I don't shoot enough. Not surprisingly my accuracy is lower than it should be. It may have something to do with coordination, I'm not sure. I have shot 2 guns, a .22 revolver, and some sort of semi-auto, .22 rifle. We also have a few shotguns in the family.
