Whenever I watch a film or show, play a certain video game, etc. I'm always intent on tracking down the year it came from. I'm even more interested if it's from the same year of my birth (1989). Anyone besides me do the same or something similar?

definitely, if the year the content takes place in is not directly said I always am trying to figure it out. Also gets kind of annoying because i can pick out tons of flaws in movies that do take place in certain time periods. Things like windows and glass that are tempered but in a time period before the process was invented. And the occasional 1980 model car in a move taking place in the 1970s. The flaws in period movies.

That's actually one part of my question, pinpointing the year of the setting. The other part was searching the year it was actually produced/made/etc., like when a song was recorded and released.

I find that I go crazy about things from the year, 1965. For obvious reasons, as well.

I do that too with my birth year 1989. Makes me think about what was going on when I was brought into the world.

I have a peculiar fascination with the year 1984 because it was the year Ghostbusters was made. I'm hung-up on pretty much anything from the early eighties (I was born in 1981). I have also mentioned my interest in the Commodore VIC 20 in other threads (this computer was released in 1980 and discontinued in 1985).

I think the appeal is that these years represent a time when we were alive yet not old enough to remember the events that took place -- it's an uncharted territory in our lives; something we can never fully know, yet constantly seek to know.

For me, I too am very interested in what year something is. About the first thing I ask when a movie comes on television is "What year was it made?" Then we take the remote and click the description to get the year. I am like that with many things. Something else I do is with a can of soda---I always look at the bottom of it for the date that shows day, month, and year of expiration. As I pass houses, I am wondering what year it was built. So yes, for me, dates are extremely important.
