Probably because now that things are established it is more about securety now, to defend what has been made and done in the name of freedom.

Privacy is no longer a right. It is a highly rare prize for the right combination of extreme paranoia and skill.

They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Ben Franklin

freedom/not freedom is an illusion. the only way to rob someone of their freedom is to lock them up in a small dark box.

otherwise we're living anarchy in practice. if you wanna burn a building down, you go and burn it down. nobody will stop you, if your clever about it. thats why houses gets burned down.
each time theres a crime commited, at the time and place, the crime was illegal to commit. it was commited none the less.

punishment comes afterwards, and serves as blind revenge, nothing else. anyone who thinks prisons "rehabilitate" should talk to an inmate :]

america hasn't been as free as the government would like the citizens, and other countries to believe, for a *long* time. Sadly.

I think 2001 (five days before my birthday, no less) really was terrible for America, because not only did we lose many lives, we also lost some freedoms. (I'm not the kind of person to bring arms on an airport, but I am serious.)

I think 2000 was just as bad of a year for the US.

I know what you mean but until all the crap like the Patriot Act are done away with things will stay repressed like they are now.
