I'm sure most here have little or no interest in Soap Box Derby racing. But my son used his AS to an advantage to become the best on the West Coast and to race in the World's Championship. His sensitivity to touch allowed him to 'feel' his car and drive with it, most kids try strategy and technique.

There is not very much my son can beat the snot out of NT kids in.. so I am saddened to see this part of American History going away.

Quote:
AKRON -- Akron based FirstMerit Bank filed a lawsuit Friday in Summit County Common Pleas Court seeking nearly $600,000 from the All-American Soap Box Derby.

If successful, FirstMerit can sell the Derby's assets at a sheriff's auction or have a bank-controlled receiver take over the Derby management.

Many congratulations to your son!

I did the derby on my home-town hill back in the early '60s, and it was sad when that ended here many years ago. Not so much for nostalgic reasons, but because this indicates "Corporate America's" lack of interest in this country's youth.

Hi Oregon---do you think there is any way to get the plans to that facility? I hate to see something happen to that too---it is so unique. I can imagine an HO scale model of that on my railroad layout.
