snake plant - new growth

I have a pretty mature snake plant and it's got a very tightly bundled spike of new growth. I want to know if I can just pluck it out and replant it into another pot.

or I could call you a useless lump of flesh.

Already did. They tell me to cut it into 3" pieces but I'm sure there's a way to replant it intact without mutilating it.
