I heard lot of people pronounce it wrong who aren't from here.

Ditto, though I hear people around here pronounce it or-ee-GON

"Tek-sas" is the Anglicized pronunciation of my state.

It was originally pronounced "Tay-shas", which was the native Caddo word for friendship (which is our state motto).
