When I rest on my arm on a table, with the arms straight down and holding my weight, people always go "Ewwww", because apparently it looks as though the arm is broken, as the arm locks in an apparently odd position.

Great one for freaking kids at parties - I can put my foot behind my ear. The kiddies aren't used to adults being more flexible than them, and this amuses them for a good few minutes.

It is called hypermobility, it has no relation to Aspergers. I have it in my elbows and fingers, i can also pull my feet up in front of my ribs.

I am famous for my double-jointedness.

I find that I'm the opposite. My body's not flexible at all.

yet another example of thinking something is caused by AS or that all Aspies must have this in common - like we're all a whole new species.

As far as hypermobility is concerned, I don't have it.

Not all aspies have it, but hyperflexibility and low muscle tone are thought to be strongly associated with the syndrome.

But without threads like that, and thread where a topic just has "with aspergers" or "Apergers x" appended, threadcount on wp would drop by over half.
And we can't have that now can we?

I'm also double jointed in various places, but suffer no muscle weakness.

ligamus laxi what ever : Funny double back thumbs and ultra loose ankles. Technician molding my feet for orthodics repeatedly told me my ankles weren't supposed to move the way she was moving them and had never seen it before. I had no idea that my ankles were so unusual. after all needing orthodics to keep body in line isn't unusual.

Oh well the ankles keep me off the frozen pond but the thumbs are probably a gift in dexterity.

For my size/build (6'4", most of my life spent at 260 or more (happily down to 235 now)), I have always been flexible to an extent others would comment... though not with the contortions described in the OP. At that size, I could put my foot behind my head and from into a leg-front split without much difficulty - the trade-off being that my joints are loose (and slightly malformed, deficient grooves) in general, and I have damaged both knees and one shoulder significantly as a result.
