I thought being on disability actually opened you up to a lot more government grants and funding? I had my first year of college completely paid for, no loans or anything, because my dad was on social security disability. That was 10 years ago (holy crap, it's almost 2010? lol) and I know Bush cut millions out of college funding, but I think if you look into it there should be stuff for you. I had a cousin who got crohn's disease when she 30 years old, she was out of work for years and took that time to go back to school, got her bachelors and masters in that time and paid barely a penny out of pocket.
I'm gonna get ahold of an uncle of mine who sits on the board of alumns at a big university, ask him if knows some more information on where to look. But, call up your local college admissions office, try to set up an appointment (some of them will even offer to meet you at your house). It doesnt hurt to talk about it. Those people are rated on how many students they bring in, so they are going to go out of their way (or should anyways =P) to do everything they can to get you into school.
And like Ariel said, once you are 24, you are considered an adult going back to school and the amount of financial aid available to you triples.
