Countdown to New Years?

I'm not, I don't have any friends who will invite me to go so I might count down at home.

I plan to order a pizza, then have some bubbly when the new year starts (one year after the ball drops in Times Square--I'm in the Central Time Zone).

I want to go to the Space Needle: big gathering and a countdown and a breathtaking fireworks display at midnight. But last time I went it took me two hours of driving in circles to find a parking spot. I finally found a spot a full mile away, and even there I had to park funny on a street corner and could have been ticketed or towed. Driving in downtown Seattle is an exercise in patience on the best of days.

I think there's something smaller within walking distance of my place. I'll try that.

Driving in Austin is a total pain in the a** as well, especially around downtown and UT. The Riverwalk in San Antonio will probably be jam-packed with revelers tomorrow. In fact, one has to book a hotel room a year in advance for the Thanksgiving Parade there.

I go to bed about 9pm PST every night.

I suppose I will still be able to catch the ball dropping in NY, though since they are 3 hours ahead of me ;)

But I won't. :P

New Year's Eve depresses me actually. It does not strike me as a time of celebration. But more like a time to mourn the death(passing) of the current year. That song, Auld Lang Syne, makes me feel very very sad - almost to point of tears.

I may well watch the Rose Parade on 1/1 am, though!

-edit- As a second thought, I think my room mates are having a New Year's Eve party.. I may be expected to participate and stay until at least midnight. God I hope not. Talk about hell on earth...

I'm visiting my parents in LA--I'd totally forgotten about that tradition. It's pretty much the only thing to look forward to on New Year's around here. Though, if you've ever spent the night on the parade route, that's a new definition of hell, too. LOL

I've never really understood the big deal, either. Have you ever heard that song by Dan Fogelberg, I think it is? Another Auld Lang Syne? omg, that's the kind of stuff people slash their wrists to. Depressing sh**.

6:30 am. I need about 8-9 hours to feel well rested. I cannot sleep in past 7 even if I have no alarm set. :?

Are you kidding?

Go somewhere where I will be packed in with thousands of other people? No way!!

I am in Melbourne Australia and it is two hours to midnight on the 31st.

They say that at least half a million people will have gathered in the city for the midnight fireworks display.

Too bad for them because there is a huge thunder storm battering the city.
