When you breathe through your nose, either the left or right passage is taking more in then the other. This works in a cycle period of roughly 4 hours. One side favours the left brain functions, the other favours the right brain functions.

Therefore if you can figure out your cycle, you can plan what sort of activity to do and when and therefore maximise your performance.

Your digestive tract works in a similar fashion. It cycles approximately every 5 hours, but you only hear or notice a few of your farts a day. By inserting your finger while standing up, either just after or 2 1/2 hours after, you can acheive a faster or slower metabolism accordingly.

Therefore you can last longer when starving, or loose weight in a few days for that date.

This is a really good technique for calming your mind!
I have been doing Yoga since 2000, and have benefited enormously from my dedication. I thoroughly recommend and encourage every aspy to take advantage of it's time-tested wisdom and quintessential knowledge of the human anatomy, mentality and soul!

Alternate nostril breathing or 'Nadi Shodana Pranayama'
is well worth taking 10 minutes out of your day to perform.
I incorporate it into my meditation practice, too, as a focusing device,
and find that it makes the transition into the 'zen' 'no mind' 'bliss' state,
so much easier and faster! :D
