Rght now I have an obsession with decades (not necessarily in a raw historical sense), more in an artistic and music sense. Over the break I have been watching a ton of music videos from the 00's, and 90's and 80's, after watching several music videos from different time periods someone can usually guess correctly the time that the music video was made (90's and 2000's are hardest because there are so many. After coming back to my hometown of Dallas over christmas I also have enjoyed trying to figure out exactly which buildings were built during certain time periods, alot of these buildings are buildings that I remember seeing built. Since Dallas is so big, it can become very thought consuming. If you live in a major city the odds are that different sections of the city were being developed over the years, so if you take a major street in Dallas such as Greenville Avenue or Central Expressway the neighborhoods tend to become newer and newer as you drive out of the city. (East Dallas 1960's, Richardson 1980's, Plano and Allen 1990's, and Mckinney 2000's). anybody else think about such things occasionally?

I sometimes find myself amazed at how many decades have actually passed since the one in which I happen to seem "stuck"! But yes, eras do pass and some things rather obviously come from one or another.

My favourite decade is the 1960s. Now, before anybody even comes to the conclusion that I'm just another hippe, I would like to tell you why the 60s happens to be my favourite of all time.

Back in the Mid-60s, there was a battle that was going on, between the Mods and the Rockers. I happen to be a left over Mod that was born, three decades, too late. As the 60s went on, or at least my favourite part, the Mods started hanging out at Carnaby Street and the Rockers moved back to the more northern parts of England, where they were from. The Mod favourites of the day, as far as music is concerned, were The Beatles, The Kinks, The Small Faces and The Who. Dandy was slang for a Mod who was a Kinks Fan. Beatle was slang for a Mod who was into The Beatles. The other subtypes of Mods were called Mods. The clothes were also much nicer, back then as well, in my opinion. The party lasted from 1963, until 1967, and it would have been my party, too if I was around Carnaby Street, back in "the day".

I dare you guys to try to call me a hippie, now.

When people think of the 1960s they automatically think of hippies! There were other styles and fads in the '60s other than the counterculture. But there's no denying that the '60s was a very turbulent decade because that's when the Civil Rights era was at its peak.

As for my favorite decades of the 20th century, I would have to go with the '20s, the '40s, the '80s, and the '90s.

The '20s because it was such a fun and carefree time, and this was when jazz was brought into the mainstream, and I have recently developed a thing for jazz.

The '40s because...I don't know why the '40s appeals to me so much to be honest, but it just does. I guess I like how everything was romanticized during this period.

The '80s because there was a lot of cool music that came from this era, and I'm fascinated with the way women styled their hair during that time. :D

The '90s because I was born in this decade! Plus, it was so cool and casual.

I love the 70s. It may sound weird, but a few years ago I fell in love with a little TV show called Life on Mars. I recognised a lot of the cultural references, especially about football, because my grandad used to collect old football programmes. I liked the clothes they wore back then and sometimes dress like someone you'd see in the 70s.

1954 - 1961 in New York City. Anything's possible.

God bless you Mad Men for making a fantasy come true.

I'm not sure anyone else on the planet is more into decades than me. But you're right, it's about the distinct feeling each decade has.

And it's never exactly on time. I think of the 50s as 1947-1962, 60s as 1963-1970, 70s as 1971-1979, 80s as 1980-1991, 90s as 1991-2000 and 00s as 2001-2010. i don't think the twenty tens culturally have really happened yet, I mean it's only January!

I like watching anime and reading manga from different decades, and I can usually tell what decade an anime/manga was aired/published by the way the characters are drawn (if it's a manga) or the production values (if it's an anime).

That being said, my favorite decade for manga is the '70s; especially the shoujo kind. Admittedly that's mostly because Rose of Versailles and Patalliro were created during this time. Shoujo of the present day all kind of has a generic feel to it, while in earlier decades each artist's style felt a little more distinctive.

I don't have a favorite decade for anime, though. I like the earlier decades because the lower production values make it seem more cheesy and fun, while the higher production values of the present offer a sleeker and more sophisticated feel.
