I'm thinking about getting one seriously because everybody is doing it. When you go to youtube and ustream is like new universe of life hrough technology. Should I get an webcam and talk to yall? I wouldn't mind talking too some aspies verbally.

My new laptop has a webcam built in as do almost all of them these days.

What should I do with it? Beats me.

A few years ago most of the webcam sites were a variation of "I'll show you mine if you show me yours"

The best use of a webcam is to have a face to face conversation with friends and family over the internet.

Count me in, my laptop is also a one with a built in webcam but it does get quite annoying at times, especially on msn when a whole lot of people ask to see my on cam...

I don't even have a webcam. Mum is so paranoid about it. Like come on, even if I DON'T put pics of myself up in public, I can still have webcam chats to my friends on MSN!

We have a webcam but it is hidden. It gives me the creeps. The idea of this eye watching you from the outside world.

I do have one. I only use it for video chat with my husband.

I have one built into my laptop, and I used to make little videos with it. I have a better camera now.

I don't do video chats (mainly because I don't know anyone else who would.)

soooooooooo big brotherish. I just think they will rig it so it's a two way thing, and technically others can intercept your video. So I don't have one and I don't see getting one in the future.

I have a webcam and I abuse it horribly. Here is a webcam video of me watching tv
Note...I cannot be unaware that I am being filmed..so I keep glancing at the webcam...and even though the stims are normal and uncontrived, on viewing the video, I can't help but feel like I am "performing"
It is both a blessing and a curse. :?

got self-conscious and removed it

My laptop has one built in, I think it's a standard now. I have never used it though, I never want to either.

No I dont have one and dont plan on getting one either. To me its equal to meeting people IRL which I find way more difficult than communicating on the net like on this forum. I would have to think of how I look like, what clothes I have and how the background would be and I would reveal my face, no thanks!

Are you doing that on purpose because you know you are on camera? Like all those facial expressions and actions?

I do have a webcam but I rarely use it, only used it once I think.

no... I am not...trying to...anyway..but having the webcam on has some effect.....subconscious or not.
I became self conscious and set the thing to private..
I have so many videos of myself...I am not particularly ashamed of being on film/webcam...but from other people's reactions, I sorta gather that I somehow should be...

If I film myself "on purpose"...then I guess it would make everything while being filmed be on purpose...to a degree...
I was filming myself attempting to pay attention to a show I was not particularly interested..all the while aware that I was filming myself..... :?

Wow..that was embarrassing..it is gone now...it kept rolling on this page even after I set it to private, so I had to delete it....stupid web cam..... :?

it is fun for stop motion animation though....

(if anyone wants to see any of my dumb webcam videos, there are plenty on my YouTube page)
I have video editing software so I can do fancy things to the stuff I record if I like....like stop motion...I went through a brief stop motion phase...

I have a webcam, but it's not compatible with Ubuntu or Windows 7. I have to boot into Vista to use it
