No. 1 son informs us he has started experimenting with a new sleep pattern [not sure where he found it documented. The idea is you do not sleep X hours in a lump, you take several half hour - 45 minute sleeps asrounf the clock. Theort says - he says - you get enough of the deep sleep to feel refreshed and get more time out of the day.

Heard of it? Tried it? It sound like the "eat lots of little meals" philosophy

I've read about that before. On one hand it would be awesome to never have to sleep for long periods of time, but on the other hand it would suck to take breaks every half hour. Besides, I've read that you feel like absolute crap the first week or so that you're trying to train your body to adjust to the new sleep cycle. Also, I think it might be dangerous because there have been no studies to show how it effects the brain or other body parts/functions in the long-term.

This is the first I have heard of this. Very interesting.

It's really hard to get into. I'd like to try alternate sleep styles, but it seems to take enormous levels of self discipline in the beginning. Yeah, it's sort of equivalent to 'eat little and often'. I dunno about dangerous. You can suffer extremes of insomnia for years with few ill effects. I don't think trying it out for a while and seeing if it works will kill you. I imagine you wouldn't be able to fit this in with most jobs.

He probably got it from this site: http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/05/how-to-become-an-early-riser/

which I linked about a week ago.

I've tried it before, but I gave up because it turns out my life isn't full enough for 22-hour days, so I kept getting really bored. I would definitely try it again if I had an actual reason to need that much time.
