I do the cooking in the house ,which gives me ULTIMATE POWER.
From a mom's POV: Everyone else eats what is served/cooked for them, so it is understandable that your family would be put off by the fact that you make something separate and eat in your room. It is sort of rude in their world because it is like the Lady taking meals in her room- special meals- and the plebeians all can eat the common folk food. No offense to you, really, because I understand your side too.
From an Aspie POV: I like to eat alone and I like to eat pretty much the same stuff all the time. I have eating rituals and I get agitated when others are around me while I eat or look at me or my food while I eat. SO I know where you are coming from and I don't judge you.
Since I cook for everyone I try to make a variety of food for their sakes. I do rotate the same types of meals though. I cook chicken or turkey dishes and serve at least one veggie every night. They don't mind a little repetition because they like my cooking. I also try to eat with my daughter when she asks me to. It makes her happy and that is important too.
So I am just saying maybe try to compromise
Thanks for your point of view from a mother and also an Aspie. I do like eating alone.
Plus dinner table=drama not nice how was your day more like EAT YOUR DINNER OR NO DESSERT! (to the little sisters) so it's not how I'd like it oh well.
