There are two countries in the world, geographically adjacent to each other, that I have boycotted for ethical reasons.

I won't say which countries as there are WP members from there, and I don't wish to offend anyone. I won't give the reasons I have boycotted them, because people will recognise the countries from the reasons.

However, in conjuction with those two countries, were I not from the UK, then I would have boycotted the UK too for the exact same reason.

Has anyone else boycotted a company, jurisdiction etc. for some ethical reason?

I use boycott all the time, usually companies but some countries at some times and in some ways.

At the very least I feel better, and when part of a campaign that gets wide spresd support it can be effective as an indicator of public resistance.

I guess you could say that being Vegan, I've boycotted animal products etc?

That's not particularly for any huge ethical reason though...

I'd try to figure out which countries and reasons you're talking about...but that requires too much brain power at this time of night.

I once attempted to boycott Proctor & Gamble ... needless to say that didn't go well, they own everything and frankly I don't buy enough of their products to make any sort of an impact to make it worth while. I do consider P&G to be one of the worlds greatest evils, although I don't boycott their products I do make an effort to avoid them as much as possible, and as desperate as I am for work I refuse to work for them, I just couldn't...and not just because one day I expect to be sued by them (I'm only half joking).

I once attempted to boycott Claire's Accessories too - for their use of piercing guns, in particular the fact they use piercing guns on young children and babies is disgusting...it's bad that parents are ignorant of the risks so put their children at risk, but a company like Claire's has no excuse. My ethics are not strong enough to counter my desire to buy shiny things though, and again boycotting them is useless...the law itself needs to change, but if they play an ad over their sound system promoting ear piercing I'll be sure to speak loudly about how unhealthy it is, and if I see them piercing a child with a gun I walk out.

Completely agree, it's a wonder so many people still go there... What piercing safety regulations do they actually have there, if any!?

The Sun newspaper since it printed that front page article about the Hillsborough disaster in 1989. 'The Truth' my backside!

Not sure about anywhere else in the world but I think that newspapers here seem particularly bad for bias, I don't see the point in reading newspapers because they're either going to be biased towards one way of thinking or political propaganda, or they're going to be in line with your own world-view and thus keep you closed-minded. Most media sources have to be approached with caution, but newspapers in particular rarely know the meaning of the word 'truth' in any way.

I've just started to boycot my local casino three months ago. It's been worth it. There are better ways to put my money to use, and the casino is 'The Playground Of Lost Souls'.

You read newspapers at all?

The Sun in general is bad, lol.

I read now & again, the guardian, the Indy, the FT & the daily post. I had to read quality newspapers at university for the courses I did in business school to keep an eye on the markets as I was doing economics, finance, & corporate strategy modules with my computer science degree.

There are things I avoid because I don't like em but I don't really think of it as boycotting. When I think of the word boycott; I think of people making a protest statement like people standing outside WalMart with signs saying the place is evil. Maybe I'm wrong about the meaning of the word boycott; IDK

I started boycotting a brand of chocolate milk powders/syrups ever since I learned that they use child slave labor. It used to be my most favorite drink ever, but now I can't ever bring myself to drink a glass without feeling immensely guilty.

heeheehee is it Canada you have boycotted because we give the Trudeau Salute?

for myself, i do not eat chicken or eat eggs unless it is free range, so maybe that is my boycott.

I boycott McDonald's for personal reasons and Home Depot because my dad works for a competitor.

Also, I have boycotted 7-11 for personal reasons as well.

There is also a particular Chapters I boycott (Chapters is a bookstore kind of like Barnes and Nobles in Canada, there is a chain of them). However, I will go to other Chapters'.

I try to boycott all these products
corn
soy
non organic milk, beef, or dairy
russet potatoes
beet sugar
non organic or homegrown tomatoes

all because of GMO. Believe me this is an expensive boycott, cause finding food without one of these ingredients is hard, and when you do find it...it is expensive. The US government gives a subsidy to companies who use corn or soy, so it makes real food very expensive and lab food really cheap. example: most bread has some form of soy in it; however, bread without GMO's can cost as much as 8 dollars a loaf.

also I wont buy progresso soups because they have plastic lining on the inside that leaks carcigens into the food

I dont shop walmart very often because of ethical issues
