I'm interested in any ideas WrongPlaneteers (users of WrongPlanet)
have for fan-created fictional characters. Not so much
fanfic stories, yet; good characters lead naturally to good
stories in my humble opinion.

Any characters, in any story, set anywhere, anytime. Who knows? I may just
present a character like that myself if this topic comes to life.

While I understand what would make a person want to write fanfic, I don't really understand the reasoning behind creating an original character and putting it into a fanfic. If you can create your own characters, why not just write an entirely original work? It's not that difficult to create a universe once you have a character and know what you want to put that character through.

i wrote a book some time ago called the idiots guide to the criminaly insane. the story revolved around james, middle management at a sales job. one of those boss's that everyone listens to until a second after he leaves then do their own thing. fresh off his divorce and sunk in a deep depression he finds the day to day becoming unbearable. until one night he is kept awake by a stray cat out his window. which he preceeds to strangle to death. alarmed by his actions and euphopria he felt doing it, james sought mental help. doctor alex patton a well known shrink for his work in psycho medical journals begins treating james for his problems. once its learned of james' actions the doc decides to push him down the path of a psychotic in order to study him. he perscribes medication to james which are actually placebos.

the story goes on a downward spiral leading to the murder of james boss and a beat cop at the hands of james and the rape of woman he always rides the elevator with in his apartment building. until one day he shows up for his appointment with dr patton early and discovers the doc has been molding him into this sociopath for his own means. james takes the book for his own and strangles dr patton with a phone cord. and proceeds to tour a book signing event.

the idiots guide to the criminaly insane was hailed to be one of the greatest works of fiction ever printed

I have a fanfic character that I've been working on. I think I should explain the backstory of the fic first. It's a crossover of Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It's a slash and mpreg story with the pairing Tarrant Hightopp (Mad Hatter)/Willy Wonka. I don't want to give too many details away here because I want to save it for my actual story.

Name: Wilma Hightopp-Wonka
Sex: Female
Age: 8
Appearance: Brown hair in an A-line cut, bright green eyes. Wears a dress with a stylized W across the top, and pockets shaped like teacups on the bottom, white nylons with clog shoes, and a top hat with a bow attached to the front.
Family: Tarrant Hightopp (father), Willy Wonka ("mother")
Description: Wilma is the daughter of the Mad Hatter and Willy Wonka, and the heiress to their joint hat/candy business. She is cheerful and, like her parents, very imaginative. However she has a nasty temper and is prone to tantrums, particularly when she is interrupted when using her imagination or going through her daily routine.

I have created lot of characters. Here are couple of them:

Name: Jennifer
Age: early 30's
Summary: Has undiagnosed AS and lives in deep denial and thinks she knows everything (not literally), acts arrogant, works as a journalist, has a son on the spectrum, very rigid, hates the world and people, has environmental depression, had a sucky husband who didn't understand her, likes to travel, struggles to be a good parent and work at the same time.

Present time: Married to a rich man who was a famous musician, has another son on the spectrum and one adoptive daughter, likes to troll online and get in fights with jerks and getting banned from places, even here, joined I2 where she can't get banned. Has embraced her condition, and her depression had went away after she met her husband and she functioned better.

Name: Natalie
Age: 15
Summary: An incontinent teen living in the year 2000 who is also undiagnosed ASD. Has a mom on the spectrum and brother and a dad with OCD. Gets bullied in school and is obsessed with James Bong and video games. Has learning difficulties.

I have done some original work and I have done OC's for fanfiction. I find it fun to put in new characters. Why not have Sam and Joon watch a boy because their mother had a nervous breakdown? Why not be Joon's housekeeper?

Here's one:

Name: Emily B. Langdon
Age(as of 1907): 13
Eyes: Green
Hair: Auburn
Height: 5' 3"
Weight: 105 lbs
Favorite color: red
Behavior: Very subdued, her adoptive mother expects her to act like a woman, instead of a child.
Age at adoption: 1 month

I wont usually read a fanfiction if there are original characters (excluding very minor ones). I just don't think the point of a fanfiction is to make new characters.

I kind of agree with Avarice. I only write fanfic for myself, and I only use canon characters (although often I write about peripheral characters rather than the main ones). If I created a great charter, I'd want to write original stories about her -- people have said I have enough stories about my old EverQuest character, Zariel, to write a novel. I have about as many stories about Rose, my City of Heroes character. They develop a personality as I RP them more, and I feel compelled to expand their lives outside the games.

If I tried to write about them here, I'd go on and on! I tried just giving a brief description, but that didn't work. I will say she's a lot like me, and looks like me too (sable hair, green eyes, pale skin, 5'5"), but we have a few major differences. She's younger than I am, smarter than I am, not married (though she does have a boyfriend), an atheist -- and obviously I am not a superpowered superhero. (Too bad; that would be a great alternate career.)

I've created quite a few original characters when writing X-Men fanfic, with one of them being a fairly constant fixture in the continuity I've built. She's not so much my self-insertion character (what with my being male and all ;)) so much as she's a viewpoint character in certain respects. That being said, I've tried not to make her too much of a Mary Sue - while the in-story basis of her character means that she was genetically created to be a killer (and thus has frequently demonstrated built-in fighting skills to back this up), she still literally wets herself when she thinks she's going to get beaten to a bloody pulp by a very ticked-off Hulk (Well, wouldn't you? :P).

I also seem to have a tendency to give my favourite pairings offspring (and I also made one character a single parent in one alternate-universe story). Whether that shows a desire to be a father myself or simply to put my favourite characters through the relevant ups and downs of parenthood, I couldn't say - I hope it's not the former, though, because I would totally suck as a dad

As you can see with my previous post, I like doing this too. Back when I was really into my Hellsing/Trinity Blood crossover universe, I paired off almost the entire casts with one another and gave them all children.

Of all the children I made up, my top favorite was Ana Van Winkle, the daughter of the crack pairing Rip Van Winkle/Noelle Bor. A vampire hunter cut off her left arm when she was small, and so she got a cybernetic arm as a replacement. She couldn't regenerate a new one because she's only half-vampire, and in my universe those are less powerful than full-blooded vampires. Personality-wise, she was very shy, withdrawn and emotionless, particularly because she was constantly bullied due to her arm and heritage. She would frequentlly and discreetly murder her antagonists, and so she had to change schools a lot and keep a low profile to keep from being found out by the police.

Here is a topic I once started. It contains my original mutant characters from the X-Men world. I haven't created any more since August last year, I think, though. But I do have some ideas for more characters, I am going to finish them in a couple of days. How do you like my characters? :D Add yours if you want :D
