Ok, so sometime ago, maybe a few weeks ago, I was walking back to my dorm from campus. My dorm is on campus but it is kind of away from the rest of the campus at the edge. So there are always these people driving what looks like golf carts around, transporting things. Most of them are maintenance workers I think.

Anyway, one of them stopped beside me and asked if I was walking back to my dorm. I said yes and he asked me if I wanted a ride and I accepted the offer. The weird thing was that I did not even think of the idea of the potentially dangerous situation of accepting rides from strangers at that moment. It wasn't until a few days ago that I realized that I accepted a ride from a stranger.

Its weird because if someone offered me a ride in a car, I might sense the danger but when the situation is not literally a car, I forget to sense the danger. And somehow I started to have this false sense of security, thinking that everyone on campus is not a bad person.

PS It was a fun ride

You were lucky and anyone can do that what you did. I have heard of people getting raped or killed because they were wandering at night or in a unsafe area so I wonder what the difference is between aspies and none aspies doing it.

I have put myself in danger before without knowing it and my husband drive me crazy with his paranoia.

I've had moments, that I was unable to sense danger. I crossed a street, before the light turned green, once just over a month ago. I looked up and thought, "Oh, s**t...I never do that!"

This thread freaks me out because it makes me think that people with AS are more likely to get sexually assaulted. I kind of want to puke now. I'm sorry.

I'm sorry if I made you think that I as an individual represented all aspies.

Not at all. It just triggered me to remember my parents (and a bunch of other people) telling me that I was unable to sense danger and that I was "constantly putting myself in risky situations." I'm a stalking victim with layered PTSD and am wondering if it's related to AS.

I had times like that I was unable to sense danger is when I accepted chicken from a stranger, I was surprised how I didn't get poisoned or killed, and that was when they were setting up a BBQ, this was before he decided to get a huge dog.

One thing that has helped me be able to sense danger is that I watch videos of muggings that have happened. You get the see a lot of pre-incident indicators that are dead giveaways for when someone is about to attack.
