Yesterday evening I had a frightening encounter. I was standing outside a cemetary, when a truck pulled up beside me. The man inside menacingly shouted at me "what are you doing fat boy!?!". I replied "nothing". And then after I saw that he wasn't going to move along, I ran back home, while calling for help into my two... way radio. Fortunately, he did not decide to persue me, so I didn't have to go all sumo on him. ;) I think that he might have been drunk. But he also might have been racist, as it is customary for people to demeaningly refer to grown black men as boys. If so, he must have been really drunk I think, as I've never in my life been mistaken for a black. A Latino sometimes, but not a black. And I don't think I'm that dark anyway. Lastly, the guy might have just been prejudiced against heavyset people. Some people have personal hatred towards people who are overweight. Though I do try to keep my weight under control, through diet, and by keeping physicly active, I do have a wide waist. I had liked going to the cemetary, in order to get away from other people, and hang out by myself. But now I guess that no place is safe to just walk around at.

Don't let it bother you. That guy is just prejudiced against people like you. That is wrong. If he encounters you again you should get the police involved because that's harassment. As for a place to hang around, I have no idea. Do you have a big backyard?

Yes I have a back yard. But I also have neighbors on either side. So I sometimes like to get away for awhile, just by myself. I don't think that I'm too offended by it personally. I was just shocked, as I'd been hanging out around there before, and had never encountered any trouble. In fact, I've seen people have picnics outside the cemetary before. So it's not an uncommon place to gather.

Okay, I suggest that you just continue hanging out at the cemetery when you always do. It's not like you're doing anything wrong. And, if that guy bothers you, tell him to screw off.

That's a tough situation to try to handle. When I was younger, those things happened and got to me. I was scared to respond defensively, and it made me feel bad about myself and weak. I can't advise anyone else what to do in those cases, but I'd say that now if that happened to me, I'd have to size it up as it happens. I might either give him a dirty look and ignore it, or I might take a few arrogant steps closer to the truck, stare him down and say "What did you just say?" Chances are, if I did that, he'd want to avoid escalating it and say "Sorry I thought you were someone else" to get himself off the hook, and drive away. It depends on the offender's size, mentality and attitude how I'd respond. If it's a gangster in a lowrider (likely armed), I'd probably duck & run. If it's just a wise ass in a truck, I'd assume that I could intimidate him since I'm a 6' bodybuilder. If I weren't what I am, I might think differently.

Oh, I do carry some protection. I have a makeshiff bo staff, made out of PVC pipe. And I am familiar with bojutsu, and also have a rudimentary knowledge of Isshinryu Karate. So I wasn't kidding when I posted that he was lucky that I didn't go sumo on him. It's just that I was concerned that he might have had a gun, as I routinely hear gunshots, from hunters, and target shooters, near where I live. And of course I only wish to use brute force as a last resort. Mace, and/or a taser, might be another good idea though, just in case. Especially with the possibility of gun possession, in my country, the U.S.A.
