The title speaks for itself. For those who don't know what an otaku is, here's a link detailing it:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otaku

Now quite frankly, I know of the negative reactions of others towards otakus but really, I don't mind calling myself an otaku. I even dare to call myself an otaku regardless of what others think of me.

You people might be wondering why I'm asking such a question. Basically, someone blocked me on Facebook just because I'm an otaku. And he's an Aspie like me and alot of us here.

But really, I'm just curious to know what you guys think. Would you all hate me if I called myself an otaku?

I don't hate people for frivolous things.

It takes me a good deal of being attacked or deceived by someone before I hate them. I don't know anything about you so I've no idea why I should hate you :?.

I'm not quite sure what the problem is. Someone blocked you for a label you use on yourself? How shallow is that?!

Personally, I very much don't care what people call themselves, as I know by experience that there is often a big difference between what someone will say about themselves and how they really are. I judge people by their actions, not by their words.

I used to be an otaku and refer to myself as such. I don't see a problem with using the word, especially in Western countries where there is less of a negative stigma attached to it compared to its native Japan.

Likewise. Although you otaku types have made it so that, these days, everyone assumes anyone who is interested in anything Japanese is into anime and manga, which used to make me weary. Some of us like literature and languages with lots of vowels! ^_^

Also, the plural of "otaku" is "otaku." With this knowledge in mind, you can now go forth and be a better otaku. ;)

There's nothing inherently wrong with being an otaku. Someone even called me an otaku once, though I have no idea why.

The 'no' option pretty much says it all for me.

If a small china teapot orbits the Sun between Earth and Mars, does anyone care?

I think a lot of people would be very interested in how it got there.

I would certainly like to know how a small china teapot came to be occupying such an odd orbit...

As for the question, that depends. Would you hate me for calling myself a sci-fi geek? 'Cause I am one. I border on being a comic-book geek as well, failing mostly because I can't cite issue and volume numbers for the stories and characters I reference. (But I can name every Green Lantern from Earth, give some backstory for each one, and even tell you why Alan Scott is different from the others...)

That is a great answer

I am friend to all species of fellow nerd, including the otaku. I do not consider anyone less a person for being any type of nerd. I consider them more of a person.

Anyone who would refuse your friendship just for being who you are is unworthy of your friendship in the first place.

Well all kinds of odd things have been lost in space, although how it would get into that particular orbit is any one's guess.

As to the question asked by the OP, whatever floats your boat.
