I'm interested in some examples of people with the disorder who are big names. I googled a list, but most of the results I get are people I've never even heard of, or it's just a speculative list. Any help?

Albert Einstein, he was on the spectrum and he was famous for the equation of E=MC² and it was later on that they had discovered that he was on the spectrum.

The behaviour on the other hand was noticible but nobody at the time had a clue what autism/aspergers was at the time.

That debate rages on, but I think he was on the spectrum.

After watching a video of Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumkins talking about different things, I think he might be on the Spectrum.

Are you asking for contemporary famous people, or just anybody in general?

Off the top of my head, some contemporary famous people I know of who are on the autism spectrum are Daniel Tammet, Daryl Hannah, and Temple Grandin.

Some historical people who may have been on the spectrum are Albert Einstein (as already mentioned earlier in this thread), Thomas Jefferson, and Isaac Newton.

Here's a Wikipedia article on contemporary famous people on the spectrum:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_on_the_autism_spectrum

And here's a Wikipedia article on historical figures who are speculated to have had autism:

Thanks Decartes. I wish I could magically know and confirm who had it. If I could see more famous people on the spectrum, I'd feel better about my chances of being successful myself in life. (I know, that's a little irrational, but it's how I feel.)

Sigh...we have this discussion a lot. Wikipedia has a list of famous people with autism.

Contrary to popular belief, Steven Spielberg does not have Asperger's, Einstein is dead so we can't diagnose him, and nobody knows if Bill Gates has Asperger's (well, except him and his family).

What makes you think he doesn't? He really doesn't appear to, but I've seen it listed in numerous places he has a diagnosis, and nobody refutes it.
