So has anybody on the Eastern half of the US ever been to Camp Powhatan, the Boy Scout camp? I'm packing my son up for his first time next week. Being in the Scouts has been a good experience for him. The troop all started out together so there were no established cliques. It is small and it is one place where he is treated with respect and not teased or bullied. I know that's not always the way (in any group) but I'm glad he has that.

Camp Poontang.

But no, I got kicked out of a camp once for threatening a boy with a knife.

I would guess he will be just fine and do well for just as long as does not abandon the togetherness and familiarity within his own troop in favor of exploring the great outdoors all on his own!

Yes, he'll stick with the group. I did buy him a compass with a nifty mirror for signaling, though. I'm going to drive up(down?) next Friday night for the big bonfire ceremony. I have mixed feelings about the Scouts as a whole, but I'm not going to let that stop him from having fun. I just dropped him off at the church which is their home base. Another scout stuck his hand out to shake his and I could see my son didn't see it. The scoutmasters know he has AS but none of the boys do. I'm glad the group is small. The other scouts don't give him a hard time for being the quiet one.
