Ok, so I was embarassed to say it (and I didn't know why) but I have never had an actual job in my life.

In high school, I was one of those people who did not want to "grow up" and so I never bothered finding a part time job. I had a few interviews in university (coop) but no one hired me and I eventually switched out of coop. I tried finding part time job again but no interviews.

Who else never had a job before (perhaps you're even older than me?)

Getting a job is a waste of time as a minor, I feel.

I didn't have a real job until I was 19. I've only ever gotten one job on my own, the rest were through family. The longest I held a job was 9 months, the next longest was 2 months. I have worked at one place for the last few years, but it's been sporadic and I've probably only worked a month or two if you lined up all the days. It's also not a real job, just doing extra work for my mom.

I've never had a real job, either. I've been to countless job interviews, but nobody ever wanted to hire me. Last summer, though, I was accepted into a job mentoring program thing for special ed high school students. It was basically volunteer work that you got paid for, so I guess you could count that as a job, but I wouldn't count it as an actual job.

Ok, so you weren't "lazy" in high school. You actually tried looking for a job. :)

I don't have any skills to offer beyond reading and some other silly things, so I haven't bothered trying to find a job in high school. I'm afraid of cashiers, so why would I want to become one? I could never work in the food service industry either because it would freak me out to have to move so quickly and I'd totally mess up. :?
I'd love to sort books in Borders or Barnes & Noble though.

I would totally love to work there too :D .
But every time i've applied, i never get a call back....
even though i read so much that i should be more than qualified enough
More qualified than some of the know-nothing-about-books-people that i've seen working there anyways :?

It's really difficult to find jobs in these times.. I see so many people trying without any success.
I probably wouldn't have gotten a job if I applied.

i've never had a real job per se.
I've worked as a seasonal waver for a tax place.
and as a survey person for a market research place which didn't pan out because it was too social for me.
Basically just crap jobs that don't count as much experience anywhere else.
i wish i could get a real one...

I didn't get my first job until I was almost 21 (temporary accounts payable position, lasted two weeks), then I got the job I'm currently in just before my 21st birthday. I applied for after school jobs when I was younger but I never got any callbacks.

I'm the same age as you and I've never had a job either. Social Security has deemed me unfit to work, although I hope they'll change that at my next evaluation. Note that I didn't sign up for SSI myself, my parents did. It would boost my self-esteem up by a lot if I actually worked to earn the things I buy. My parents tell me I don't have to work, but I always feel like I'm getting a free ride I don't deserve, and I'm tired of it.
