I'm gonna need to hear some accents before I determine my opinion.

i wasn't even aware that there WAS an accent for where i live

in the USA you hear about southern accents, okie twangs, hillbilly speech, cajun jargon, and there's the new yorker and chicago accents, etc, etc.

But i've never heard anyone accusing someone from Washington state of having any kind of particular accent. As far as i know, i'm accent-less :?

Do other people around the states think people where i live have an accent 8O ?

I apparently have a dreadful accent - Western Sydney "scrapper" aka low-class and rough as guts.

No, the Nortwest seems devoid of an accent. tsk tsk tsk. It's ok, though, I don't have one either since I was raised military. :)

Everyone has an accent  it just depends on who perceives them.

Luckily I don't have a Southern accent I just go the bad slurring off at the end of sentences.

Despite being from Texas, I really don't have an accent, at least I don't think I do. I guess I'll let you be the judge of that.

You don't have a texan accent at all... it's barely American. I like it.

I'm glad you like my "accent", but how does it not sound American?

I speak with a Cockney accent, but I don't know how that measures in thickness, compared to the other accents, in the English speaking world.

I speak Pennsylvanian. Not a redneck accent. I slip into cockney accents when I'm in my Renaissance persona though. It's fun. :D

Yeah, I meant in reference to other Americans - I guess that was close minded of me considering the global representation on WP. Americans though can be very particular about accents and there are so many distinct ones here, so the standard is often referred to as "no accent" - though clearly that's incorrect.

One time, in Cardiff Wales, the greatest cabbie ever was taking me to work and at the end of the ride asked me for a kiss because he said he just loved my accent. He was probably in his 70s and we had really hit it off so I planted one right on his cheek. :) So yes, you are absolutely right!
