...wouldn't the people working at power plants get layed-off and gas companies also have lay-offs?

Or is it a price that should be paid for the sake of saving the earth from catastrophic consequences??

Can someone please answer my question? Does not being environmental cost the economy more? Because being environmental can cause industries like the power plant companies to collapse.

Is it better to pay people to do jobs which are unnecessary or is it better to pay people to do other jobs which reduce pollution and help prevent dangerous substances from getting into the environment and poisoning the air, the water and the land?

Paying people to do jobs which no longer serve a purpose does not make sense. People should be trained to do different jobs which are more useful for the time and for said people's skills.

Being pro-environmental can cause the creation of new industries and jobs for engineers who are paid to reduce energy waste.

The purpose of a job should be more than to make sure that a person continues to earn wages.

What jobs specifically do you expect to be lost if people conserve energy?

We human beings could not "save the earth" from ourselves or anything else even if we actually *were* causing it some kind of irreparable harm.

Depends on how you define irreparable. We do enough damage to the biosphere we can get things to the point where recovery to the status quo takes up a significant chunk of the biosphere's remaining lifespan (only half a billion years left! - it's tragic.)

I have definitely stepped out way beyond my actual knowledge of things here, so maybe I am depending too much upon the sun to "bleach things out" or whatever before the end of its own time!
