It's said that you learn something new every day. Being one to take things literally, I try to keep this in mind and make a note of at least one thing I've learned (or accomplished) every day, however small or insignificant it may be. It seems to me that even the darkest day must have its redeeming qualities, if only you can pull yourself out of your rut enough to examine it.

I tried sharing this idea with a few individuals in a social gathering last night when things took a downturn and, though they laughed outright at this personal philosophy of mine, when I questioned them one by one, each person ended up with a smile on their face.

So, what have you learned or accomplished today?

hi Kaybee... :)

Only half the day has gone while I write but I have learned that you don't have to like something to be able to learn from it, which I think can go well in this thread.

An excellent lesson, and very important for this topic. Thank you for mentioning it. I too often think things go without saying when they really don't (a lesson which I may finally learn myself one of these days).

Today, I learned that people here don't like this sort of positive thread. Also, the mating habits of the leopard slug and the capital of Malta (Valletta).

Accomplishments: Went out and bought a much-needed lightbulb, which I can't reach to change (but that's a challenge for another day). Updated my CV. Pulled myself out of a funk.

I found this interesting. You are basing this on the number of replies so far? I also notice this trend, in that people would far rather have something [generally] to moan about and I don't think that has anything to do with autism as such, it's the way the world is?

There is, I s'pose, an error in expecting equal numbers of "positive" and "negative" threads. Most threads will involve some degree of controversy or have some area which people dispute; few will be purely positive (even when the intent is that they be so - consider the likely fate of a thread titled "wonderful things God has done for me." :) ) Also, people posting heavily in bitchy threads to the exclusion of happy ones does not necessarily imply that they dislike happy ones, just that they enjoy the others more... Also also, the fate of threads is highly random anyway so be wary of making too direct inferences about particular threads.

I've not learned anything especially interesting today; some minor junk about the fall of Singapore and the Silverstone circuit (I was looking it up 'cause I only half recognised it in the new F1 game) and misc crap from the news, but nothing very share-able.

Oh! I did learn to sing "Ga'Hooooole" ("without a mouse in my gut...") to the tune of "Blue Moon" in the car this morning.

On the contrary, I would find some junk about the fall of Singapore quite fascinating. Perhaps I'll look it up. And I have no idea what this "Ga'Hooooole" is, but it certainly sounds like a great skill to be able to sing it.

And I accept that sometimes there will be threads that are for just showing off... and if Kaybee will allow me, here's one because today I learned how easy it is [or can be] to build a personalized website... I'm quite proud of what I've managed to do in just a few hours and it IS something I learned today... and something that's positive too... [sits back and waits for the critique]...

Well today I learnt about this thread but I dont think that counts.

I also learnt that not all my classmates wish I wasnt at their class. In fact some of them(the one or two friends I managed to keep last year) want me back in their class and I find that that very sweet(had a random encounter with one of them at university while I was taking a break from studying.) He had mentioned the whole trying to change my schedule a few times over fb but I thought he didnt really mean it.

I also learnt that uni can be fun. A teacher asked us to do a project on roleplaying games. He has given us all the material we need and we need to have a video of me and a couple of friends playing by friday. We have to learn some rules and try to convince others in our class to play it as a part of the project but it sounds better than just giving us details on the latest whatever and make us try to learn all its features by the following day.

Why should you be critiqued for being pleased about learning something new? That's great! And not just information, but a skill at that.

I'm not quite that generous. :) I'm glad to hear you're finding some positive sides to uni. I used to play roleplaying games! Which one are you going with? And good luck getting classmates to play with you--most people seem completely closed-minded about them, and just stick with the "RPGs are lame and only nerds play them" stereotype. Maybe your project will help to dispel this.

Im studying to become an IT(computer management) so many of my classmates are nerds.
We have been given the materials to play a game that was made by someone on the internet without comercial purposes(http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3282 ... er-tactics)
Its not the greatest boardgame ever but I still think its more entertaining than just having to memorize something which is what we are usually asked to do at that subject.
There were a few classmates that thoght the project was lame but once I started telling them having to play a game and learn a few rules was better thsn having to learn all the features of an object they stopped complaining.

Yes, I think I rather meant that in the flavour of what had been said in this thread, you know, that sometimes there can be a lot of negative and critical opinions, still, I really like your positivity and I do get inspired by that and learning about others and the way they cope with life, autistic or otherwise.

What I've learned is that I'm probably driving everybody crazy right now, so I'll put a lid on this meltdown of mine and get back to bed, so that I won't feel the need to apologize for it, at 6 in the morning, when I log back on to WrongPlanet.

I'm not sure thinking you're driving people crazy counts as learning something, unless this is the first time you've ever realized that you might be driving people crazy.

Today I learned that someone somewhere thinks of me, and that bikes are really much easier to ride when they have air in their tires.

It's better to just let go, than it is to dwell on emotional pain.
