Do you always seem to think that everything what happens to you is just ''sods law''? (This applies to NTs too)
This thread is to write stuff in a format like this:-

Sods law is when....
...out of all the seats on the bus the only person with a bad cold is sitting in the seat next to you

...a fire engine or ambulance turns it's siren on just as it passes you

...you and your brother work all week, and one day you decide to take one days holiday just to relax and have a day on your own, but your brother comes home early because he claims he has a sore throat or something, so your peaceful day is shattered (and your brother doesn't normally come home early!)

...your money easily drops out your hands, but in the 2p machines in the arcade the money never drops out of the machines

...it's all dry and sunny all day, then when it's time for you to walk to the bus station from work it hammers down with rain, then stops when you get in the bus

...you're hunting in your bag for your purse when you're paying the bus fare, and you pick out everything in the bag but the purse, then when you're looking for something else in your bag you keep picking out your purse!

I was wondering what Sod's Law was. Then I read through your list and realized that it is what we Americans call Murphy's Law. I wonder how this exact same thing got two different names in the English language?

This is another example of the saying, "British and Americans: Two peoples separated by a common language".

(And I've had some of those things happen to me, but I called them Murphy's Law.)

I guess it's sod as in "sod that".

Sods law is another word for ''coincidence''

So it's not sod as in sodomy? Not another way of saying "bugger that"?

I'm American but I read a lot of English novels. :)

Murphy's law/Sods law is an adage or epigram that is typically stated as: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong".
''The chance of the bread falling with the buttered side down is directly proportional to the cost of the carpet.''
''Anything that is to go wrong will do so at the worst possible moment''.

For example ''all week is was nice, warm and sunny, then we decided to have a nice picnic on Friday and it rained all day.''

I know that most people I know find it annoying, so I was just wondering if anyone here has any moments of Murphy's law
(similiar to the ''You might be Aspie if...'' thread)
