Any reasons for sudden spike in new members?

There used to be a time when there would be less than 20 new members a day. I remember one of the days had 29 new members and I was like "whoa!!". Now we get over 30 most days and I've noticed a sudden spike ever since the format of the website switched. Is that a coincidence, or did WP become easier to search for?

I've also noticed that trend, as well.

I have to confess I'm one of the new members. I don;t know why but I suddenly had a strong urge to learn more about my AS even though I went 4 years after my diagnosis with nothing but "its a social disorder" so I suddenly had the urge to learn more, learned all I could nigh obsessively, and got led here by a Wikipedia article.

Members like to make sock puppet accounts when the member count hits a certain mark 40,000, I have to wonder if one new member was referring that he was one.

It could also be the time of the year, as well. It's colder outside and more people are indoors, and below the equator, students are getting out of school for their summer vacation.

It could be because this site is more popular. Some members probably talk about this site on other places; as more members talk about this place; the more advertising this place gets so the more members we are going to attract. It's the domino affect. It could also be cuz Alex added that new section. It could be attracting members who don't have AS or autism

I suspect Friskeygirl is right - I've noticed an increase in trolls and sock puppets too.

I have noticed an increase in trolls but I don't think mjs82 is creating multiple accounts

I joined because my girlfriend that I thankfully never even met was unfaithful to me. Feeling like s**t, I started thinking about how unhuman I am, and how not even the ones who agree with me agree in the end, and suddenly I ended up here in the hope of finding my real true love from here. I just hope I don't get banned when I post about my interest in BDSM...

When you click on the forums when your not logged in, this thing pops up telling me if I should register or log in.
Maybe thats what's making more members join?

Well what I am going to say may sound rather odd but I think that one of the reasons for the increasing number of new members (among which I am myself) is that WP contains a lot of threads which deal with particular ASD traits which are mild and rather unconspicuous. They don't make your life hell, but they do get in the way.
So if you search the Internet, for an example, for an answer to the question why do you hate to hear your name called out loud or why do you cringe when people try to hug you when they meet you or why you look much younger than you actually are (because that's troubling you, not because you want to brag about it), you are likely to land on WP. That's when it all begins
