I got to see some Kindles (the ebook reader) for the first time a few months ago. I was shocked by the way they blink when they change pages - the screen darkens for a second, then goes light again. No one else seemed to have an issue with this. I've never seen it mentioned in any reviews I've read.

I can't think of anything more likely to drive me insane, though I suppose it's possible I might get used to it.

Anyone use a Kindle or another ereader? Do they blink?

I use an iPod Touch, mostly the Kindle app, for some ereading, am not crazy about it but it does the job. And doesn't blink!

They have to do that, it's just how the e-ink screen works. As far as I know, all e-readers with e-ink screens do it.

My iPad serves well enough not to require a Kindle, though 8)

Kindle=eInk display
iPad/iPhone/iTouch=IPS LCD, IPS refers to the type of signaling used to display images on an LCD.

eInk is clearly readable in all conditions, LCDs wash out in the sun, now Samsung's AMOLED and Kodak's OLED displays are improvements on LCDs when it comes to sunlight readablity.

I assume you'd get used to it.

Kind of like how back in the day we had to deal with those blurry LCD screens on Gameboys :x

The eInk has to move around or something like that - that's why it looks like that when you turn the page. Like it redraws the next page. I have one and really like it. I have fewer reading difficulties on it than with regular books because I can control the font. The way the page redraws doesn't bother me at all.

It does get annoying, but eInk is a fairly new idea, I'm sure the glitches will be worked out in later versions of the Kindle.

My husband just got a kindle for his birthday and the screen redrawing is as horrible for me as I feared. (He doesn't mind it at all.) If it just went black, I don't think I would mind as much, but the black with words is like a horrible tease.

I would love something that's just a slightly bigger version of my iPod Touch. I really like the kindle app for that, it's just a little too small. An iPad would be too big, though.
