I recently had a conversation with some people. I told them basically that I don't celebrate Christmas and that Christmas scares me as a holiday because Santa creeps me out. Does no one else have the same paranoid suspicions I have? I mean come on he's some old fat man, who comes into people's locked houses, eats Children's cookies, and gives Children presents. Not only that, but he has a list of good and bad children. Am I the only one who thinks and finds Christmas creepy? Or at least Santa kind of creepy?
All my friends and what not hate me now because I told them Santa is creepy and probably a pedobear. But I can't help it if Santa makes me suspicious and paranoid.
I mean he even receives letters from children for the things they want. Santa just creeps me out. And that Christmas legend makes me paranoid and suspicious.

I like Christmas now, but as a toddler/very young child Santa scared the h*** out of me, I have a picture of me in Santa's arms and I'm crying. In some countries Santa is pretty scary too lol

Quote:
In parts of France, St. Nicholas (Santa) is accompanied by a cannibalistic child killer named Père Fouettard (or the "Whipping Father"). He flogs children who have been naughty and dispenses lumps of coal, leaving St. Nick to bestow gifts to the good. In village parades this time of year, sinister Père Fouettards grab children and whisk them along, while some cry in fear and others taunt him back.

I never really thought about it that way, but your right it is kinda creepy, but so are alot of fairy tales when you get down to them. Same with nursery rhymes.

example: Ring around the roses..is really about the bubonic plague, rock a by baby...is just freakin twisted.

But here is another twist on the Santa story, according to pagans, santa is a member of the faery folk and not even human. He fits the charateristic.

Mostly unseen
likes milk
has use of magical powers
ability to transend time and space
looks like a large woodland faery dressed in red and white

but I can also see how he fits the charcteristic of a pedoiphile

I found him creepy as a kid as well but I was always suspicious about weither or not he really exhisted. But what really irked me as a kid is that I had the most meltdowns around the holiday season and was told that Santa wouldn't bring me anything becuase I was being "bad" and "selfish". Santa Claus just seemed like yet another judgemental jerk. My parents told me Santa was a family friend of theirs and that helped lessen the creepy factor. The idea of the tooth fairy creeped me out so bad before I even had loose teeth, my parents had to come clean on that one. If my parents hadn't told me they knew Santa personaly, I think the creepy factor, they would have had to spill the beans on Santa as well.

I do think that the santa thing is just blackmail though.

My sister was in kindergarden when she figured out that santa is a hoax, as for me, I was about 8-9 ish when my parents broke it to me. My mom sat me down and told me there is no santa, tooth fairy or easter bunny. I just cried about the easter bunny for some reason...santa I thought was a joke as with the tooth fairy, but nooooo not the easter bunny.

Anyway, I went to school with some kids in a hearing impaired class in the 9th grade that still believed in Santa. I was the only one in the class that did not believe in santa...wtf 8O And they treated me like a traitor

Good thing that's not what Christmas is really all about eh? ;)

It gets way way more creepy than the things you listed.
Santa is an anagram for Satan btw.

You're not the only one this creeps out. Santa is essentially a pagan god, in every sense of the definition.
- omniscient (knows if you've been bad or good)
- omnipresent (able to give gifts to children all over the world simultaneously)
- omnipotent (able to do supernatural things like make animals fly or squeeze his fat body down a chimney or any other host of powers.
- is worshiped.
- is celebrated.
- is pushed that people "believe" in him, if they expect presents.
- attempts to eclipse Jesus Christ (the real person Christmas is supposed to be celebrating).
etc etc etc...

google the word santa with the word satan and have a read. There's an amazing number of parallels and connections that clearly demonstrate the unseen wickedness behind the friendly smile and gifts.

This is creepy:

Quote:
You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
He's making a list
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice
Santa Claus is coming to town
He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town

Yeah, Santa also breaks and enters peoples' properties.

Don't see why it's a reason to hate Christmas as a whole though.

I have heard of the Santa=satan belief..my father in penicostal...believe me, I heard it, but I think it is just as history has shown that it was a tool used to tame unrully children when they did not have work on the farm to dp during winter months.

As far as Santa taking over Christ for christmas...christmas itself was origionally a pagan holiday, many scholars believe that Jesus was born in the spring, but the 25 of Dec falls very close to the winter solstice which was a holiday for many pre-christian polytheist religions as it marked the shortest day of the year and after that begun the days getting longer again and the coming spring. Most of the ancient roman holidays and symbols were just thinly coated with Christianity when it became the offical religion and now much of the Roman undertone is mostly forgotten and most people dont know how the holiday came to be. In catholic churches the roman beliefs with Christian whitewash is so apparent that it is uncanny.
Not so much with protestant though.

I wish I could print it and put it in my house. When I was a child I thought that Santa was the same concept as God (for the reasons Recon has just told, Santa is obviously a divine figure) and I still do not know why I believed in him sine I was always pointing out what was incoherent in this myth.

When you think about the cute fairy tales we tell our children to make them happy and innocent are totally immoral. A stranger comes into your house, drink your milk, eat your cookies but you like him because he gives you presents though you do not know where he has taken them. They claim he has dawrf green slaves to make them but we all know that the stores are full of toys at this time of the year.

Is Santa a creepy kleptomanic guy who wants you to be accused of his crime ?

Plus, he's a stalker because he sees everything you do and put you on a list...
