This line in the Spice Girls song makes no sense. Surely she would want her lover to get with her, not her friends. So what is with this line? I like the song, but don't understand that line.

Well I think it's supposed to mean...they wouldn't want to be with someone that doesn't accept their friends. At least that is what I took it to mean, its badly worded though but can't expect much from cheesy pop lyrics. Most people usually tend to get angry when their 'lover' 'gets with' their friends in any intimate exchange.

I figure it doesn't mean "get with" as in "have sex with" but I'm not sure what exactly it does mean. Since the next line is "make it last forever, friendship never ends," I think it's saying he has to be her friend (either in the sense of being a supportive longterm person in her life, or in being friends with all her friends, or both). That's one of those vague phrases that can mean almost anything.

Just context, but I agree with the direction this thread is taking, I named my last car It's Brittany B***h

I'm sure the context was much different in the 90s than it was today..

It took me several days before I realized that was a line form The Spice Girls. Now I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want, I want to not never that stupid song ever again.

^ I guess what sounds painful to one's ears is music to another. Also, I'm embarrassed because I wrote "not never" when I meant "not ever". How could I have made such a mistake?

I thought it meant "hang out with my friends".

Having a boyfriend/girlfriend who doesn't like your friends is usually bad relationship juju.

"get with" as in meet up with her friends to see if they accept him and he accepts them and be on the same page, otherwise she wouldn't have anything to do with him due to that bond she has with all her friends.

It is poorly written, but it means that she will not date him unless he can be friends with her friends, because she feels that friendships are more important and more lasting than intimate relationships (which, in my mind, is backward). However, it is suggestive of him also needing to have sex with her friends, as if all the Spice Girls roll around in a big f*ck pile. My belief is that this suggestion is intentional; some idiot thought the suggestion that these girls are slu*ty and easy and willing to go to bed together would be a big seller. Unfortunately, that idiot was right; that suggestion is the biggest selling factor of the group.

I assume that it means "I am not into one night stands with strangers (like the horny dude hitting on the narrator of the song)". But it is rather poorly phrased. So much so that it really doesnt mean anything. The words fit the rythmn of the song better than they do any possible storyline.
