this keeps on going around in circles in my head
who defined normal?
how do we know they were normal
what happens if a view that is seen as normal is just a typical view and not normal at all
is the definition of normal correct i dont see how this word can be used to describe anything because its so Bias

Normal is a point of view.

Normal is generally achieved via consensus of the majority. So whatever the majority of people do is accepted as normal.

Exactly. However, this form of judgement is far from perfect. Long ago, it was normal to believe that the Earth was flat. It was also once considered normal to believe that the Earth was the center of the universe. From my point of view, being an Autistic is normal because I've never known life without being one. Nor do I wish to change that.

The majority section also falls into the bandwagon effect. If the majority ran up debt and put a country on the brink of ruin, that would still be considered normal. Debtors are no longer ashamed of their stupidity, and thats a dangerous road to travel down. Causing problems is unacceptable, because eventually it will become my problem. As is evident. No, I am debt free, but I have had my boat rocked by stupid people. Disgraceful, how dare they!

If "normal" people think that they are the normal ones, then they obviously need to check their egos.

Normal is a value judgment and has no objective reality. The people in power call people like themselves normal.

What the majority does.

Everyone has things about themselves that isn't normal of course. I guess me pulling over to change a CD when I am looking for a specific one or pulling one out of my CD case isn't normal because I was told I was in the minority for that. Most people just do it as they are driving. Very dangerous. Goodness even some normal things people do are dangerous so they should go for the abnormal. I would say some safe driving is abnormal.

Here's the definition from Merriam-Webster:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/medical/normal

I would say "normal" (as it applies to people) is another word for average or well-conforming. It seems like if you have it, you don't want it, but if you don't have it, you seek it out. It's like young people who want to be so unique, yet wear the same clothes and use the same mannerisms/ slang as their friends in order to fit in. People will either like you or dislike you, whether or not you fit the stereotype of what it is to be normal. It seems like a waste of time to try so hard to be like everyone else.

Dictionaries should NOT use words to define themselves
