I can't even spell anymore, and it used to be something I would always cite as one of the miserably few things I was good at. :?

It made me really sad when I couldn't figure out why "prophylatic" had a squiggly red line under underneath it without first right-clicking the word.

(And notice my use of the word "sad" instead of a less generic word that would've more accurately described the emotion I was feeling. That's how dumb and dumber I'm getting.)

I keep getting red squiggly lines, because for some reason my in-line spell checker reverts to the U.S. English word set.

There's things you can do to enhance your cognitive functioning; dietary changes, exercise and meditation are a few off the top of my head.

I sympathise; feeling dumber than you want to be can be frustrating. I feel socially dumb quite often.

Are you specifically talking about spelling getting worse or do you feel your getting dumber in other areas as well OP :?: If it's mostly with spelling; it could be because of spending time online, chatting texting ect; lots of people spell bad with that & you may of picked up the common misspellings. If you feel your getting dumber with other areas; if your on any medications, drink alcohol or do any kids of illegal drugs; it could be related to that. I was on psych meds for 5 years & my mind is not nearly as sharp as it used to be & I wasn't smart before. I've been off em for over 2 years & my mind is still foggy

You're*. :P

Well, this happens to me, although mostly it's related to forgetfulness (which I don't equate with being dumb) - so, mostly because I don't use words as often. You'll get there again after you start writing on a regular basis, though.

It doesn't bother me to make mistakes on a message board or in a chat, though sometimes I flinch when I reread something I've written earlier. I don't think I've gotten any dumber, but the gulf has grown wider between me and other people in certain popular pursuits and life experiences to the point where I am pretty stupid when it comes to those things. I don't mind being ignorant but stupidity hurts.

i guess i should be thankful that i don't have to use a spell-checker, for the most part. this said, i am making more mistakes than i used to. i try not to dwell upon worries of senility, however- when it happens it will likely come padding in like on cat feet, and clobber me before i can even get up to run.
