Do you see words spelled out when they are said? I do. I also see letters, numbers and years when they are said.

Yes.
I need those visuals to remember the way difficult words have to be written.

I also see words that way, as well.

It is normal. That's why it's in the random discussion because it has nothing to do with AS. But there are people on the spectrum who don't see words when they hear them.

I don't see the words. I just hear them simultaneously in my head as well. Uhm, can't really explain any better than that.

I don't see words when I hear them. That would drive me insane 8O.

I can however, paint words in my mind and do things like easily read them backwards... although it's usually easier for me to do with numbers :?. Not to mention, I have to think and focus hard to do it :?.

I do it all the time. I've been able to do it since I was a child. I think the more I do it, the less forgetful I'll be in my later years.

No, but I sometimes "air type" them, which still involves their spelling, albeit in an unconscious and non-visual way.

Sometimes, but usually only if I'm trying to memorize them exactly. Otherwise, my visualizations are pictures, not pictures of words.

I do visualize numbers in my head when I'm trying to do math. That's why it takes me forever to do it.

YES! And this is the first time I've heard of this being suggested as connected to AS/Autism... I always see the words spelled; not only when heard but also when I speak. Hence, I have always had excellent spelling & reading skills; ahead of my age from the beginning of school.
