Our hamster, Chewy Chipmunk died a few minutes ago. He was fine earlier. Running in his little wheel and all. My younger son got his ball out and was going to put him in it and clean the cage and he was dead in the cage.

Poor little Chewy. He had a good life though.

Calm down, Star Wars fans. Peter Mayhew is fine.

Yeah, I thought you meant Chewbacca.

Hamsters are cute little things. It's unfortunate they have such short lifespans. Sorry about Chewy! :(

Sorry to hear it. I hope you're OK.

Thank you. I'm fine. We are all ok. My older daughter, who he belonged to wasn't that upset. She said "Awwwww". I was trying to be sensitive and asked if she wanted to bury him or anything and she looked at me like I was a nut! She said "I don't know how to have a hamster funeral, just get dad to throw him in the garbage!" So, Dad did.

He had been running in his wheel all day. Not an hour before he was running in it. He was dead under it. Maybe he had a little hamster heart attack or something. I feel bad for my younger son though. The 16yo. He was the one who found him. He had gone and got his ball and stuff to put him in to clean the cage. He was there poking at the cage, I went to the bathroon. I came out he was still there poking at the cage. I took some clothes to my room and put them up. I came out. He was still poking. I said "What are you doing??" He said "I think he's dead or something!" I said "Well, poking the cage won't work, move" and I looked. He was on his back. Obviously dead. I said "Uh, yeah. He's pretty obviously dead". Son said "I was just making sure!"

He was all healthy and stuff. She bought the good hamster food for him and changed his cage every other day.

Now she has this kind of dog she wants. No. We already got her a dog before. He's my dog now. We are pretty stocked up around here on dogs.

I'm sorry about your hamster. I recently lost my cat. It's so hard to watch a living experiencing creature dissapear.

I'm here for the star wars too... Hamster death is bad too. Can I suggest you give him a proper entrance into Valhalla by constructing a small ship, setting it alight and sending it out to sea.

Dear lilbuddha, That is an excellent idea! Like visualizing the spirit sailing away to the next world...

LOL! That would be cool! We live near a river too. However, my husband put him in the outside garbage can already.

I think losing a pet is even worse than losing a family member. For some reason, I relate better to animals.
I do not really feel sad when they die, because death is natural, but I get lost on thoughts of what could have been done to postpone death. I know it is unhealthy and makes me look like a villain from some silent era horror movie, but I cannot help it. Maybe I am just crazy.

Anyway, I am sorry for your hamster.

I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds like your kids are taking it well though.

My sister's kids have a couple of pet hamsters. I'm scared to find out how they'll react when their hamsters die... It's a toss-up between morbid fascination and complete devastation.
