So you hear in the news of serial killers who commit such horrific crimes that people have trouble speaking about it in detail and they just can't stand to hear what happened.

At the same time, there are countries out there that for various reasons, lack law enforcement and you hear of large numbers of people moving freely around, constantly commit crimes that are just as horrific, yet it happens all the time everyday.

I'm not sure if this should be in the Adult Forum just in case the discussions get gruesome. But I'll keep it here for now.

I cant quite figure out how to reply to this.

It is that way perhaps, but what countries are you referring to and what events?

Where there's little or poor quality policing, people tend to form communities and do their own.

There are places which can be pretty bad, but serial killers are a small small section of the populace anywhere, in my opinion. Violence in those places tends to be perpetrated for economic reasons and occurs mostly between rival gangs.

I think it's okay.

I would suppose the OP is referring to places like Somalia and Afghanistan.

Or places that have a legacy of intercommunal violence and/or severe distrust of the police for political reasons. That inevitably brings its own problems - vigilantism, punishment attacks/intimidation for 'speaking out' and organised crime to name but three issues.

That thought gives me the chills as well. I guess that's the way of the world. I feel very lucky to be living where I live.

What about terrorists who aspire to kill as many people of Western nationality as they possibly can? Its still a minority even in Muslim countries but there is no shortage of such people in this world.
