The topic for this thread was suggested by KyleTheGhost, who asked me to start it. The title of this thread is inspired by the song "Pure Imagination", sung by Gene Wilder in the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film.

The purpose of this thread is to talk about our own imaginary worlds which we have made up. Since I am starting this thread, I will describe my world first:

My world is called Aspergeria (as-spur-JEER-ee-uh). It is so named because I believe that I may not have had an imaginary world if I didn't have Asperger's Syndrome. I have had this world since I was in elementary school, but it went unnamed until I was 16.

Aspergeria is a fairly small fictional country where all of my imaginary friends, both past and present, reside. The geography has every type of land you could imagine - deserts, beaches, forests, jungles and mountains. The capitol city where my imaginary friends reside is called Intrepidville, which is located in a valley near the mountain range (similar to my real-life home of Boise, Idaho).

The architecture and fashion styles of Aspergeria are based on those found in Victorian England, though there are also many staples of American culture as well; particularly in regards to the celebration of holidays (though in Aspergeria, independence day takes place on August 25th and not July 4th). The technology found in Aspergeria involves many elements of steampunk and clockpunk. Aspergeria is also heavily steeped in fantasy - magic is just as useful as technology, and many residents are gifted with supernatural powers.

The residents speak English with either British or American accents, and it's common for people to mix and match slang and colloquialisms from both dialects. Other dialects used are Underlandish, as heard in Tim Burton's adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, and Nadsat, as heard in the book and film A Clockwork Orange.

Aspergerians are very open-minded and accepting of people who are different than the norm. In fact, it is actually considered an insult to call someone "normal" in Aspergeria. Same-sex couples are a very common sight, and arguably the most unique thing about Aspergeria is the fact that people in same-sex relationships are allowed to get married and it is very possible for them to have biological children together. You see, the biology of Aspergerians is different than that of people in the real world, so what we deem "impossible" for our own bodies is not always so with theirs.

Well, that about covers the basics of my imaginary world. I can elaborate even more if you'd like me to, but I also hope that other members of WP will feel comfortable posting about their own worlds. :)

I live in a secret garden that has become well known here, at WP. It's a quiet and peaceful garden where Mick Avory-like Sweet Peas grow. These Sweet Peas come in the form of people of both genders and they're all like Mick Avory in body, mind and spirit. They wear various types of clothes that Mick wore between 1964 and 1966. These are the most gentle and unworldly people that you will ever meet. At night, they sleep in bubbles that look like giant peas. There's also a Tree of Souls where we all pray before going to sleep.

I have a different one for each of the stories I come up with, but my most in-depth, developed one at the moment is the one I'm using as the background universe for a potential sci-fi TV series I'm (sort of) working on, titled New Zero, which takes place in a different solar system in the early three thousands.

The section of the series bible about the history, locations, characters, factions and other stuff is currently thirteen pages long, and when finished, probably going to be at least twenty or even twenty five pages long (all single spaced, twelve point Times New Roman font).

I'd like to hear more, Alex! :D

My world exists in a place where only me, my Ghost Train, The Ghost Express, and my Ghost Plane, Ghost Airlines can directly reach. It is an island where the air is always clean, and the food and water are always fresh, and the land is always peaceful and lush. The environment suits the needs of all who live there, which consist of characters of every book, movie, and TV show that I know and then some.

Heroes and neutral characters live, interact, and roam freely on my island. The villains are also there, but most of them are kept under lock and key, especially the super-powered ones. Only a few of them are allowed to roam freely, such as redeemed villains and ones you can find likable. They get together when it is time to relive their stories.

My world is still fairly new. In fact, I have yet to give it a name. More is being added to it as I come up with new ideas. :)

Ooh this sounds fun. I'm always thinking up ideas for stories or films, so I've got quite a few worlds formed in my head. With it's characters and their life stories and everything, but I haven't got the patience to write a whole story, I only get to about 2 pages at a time. A lot of my story worlds are relevant to my current special interests, so of course many of my stories have ape characters or characters that are primatologists and zoo keepers and stuff.

I've been writing parts of a story recently, about a circus chimp called Gerald. Well, it starts of set in central Africa somewhere, maybe Sierra Leone or DRC. So everything's going fine, then people come and take him away, he gets taken to a circus in Russia, life is really bad and he gets treated like s**t etc etc. But what I'm doing is I'm making the animal characters talk to each other, but of course the human characters don't understand them, and the story is also in first person. Then some people take him to a sanctuary after he spends years in some cellar at the trainer's house. I'm basing it on a real place, where they start off going to a mostly indoor sanctuary where the residents go for a sort of quarantine period, where they get treated for whatever psychological problems they have, and when they are ready they get taken to the main sanctuary where there are these big islands with climbing structures and everything. And I'm writing the back stories of the other chimps that live there, so some come from family homes and some from labs or have travelled from place to place, and a few things happen there with Gerald.

But the vast majority of the story is set in the Russian circus, there are other main characters too. The other main character is Daisy, a bonobo that has been performing longer than Gerald has at the circus, and the few years she already spent there have made her very unemotional and cold, because she has to to detach herself from the daily abuse and everything. Then there's the ring leader and trainer, who are the antagonists of the story obviously, but I'm not making them cliché villains, I want to refrain from that. Sometimes in books you can almost imagine a character ending every scene with an evil cackle, but even though the ring leader is obviously a complete twat and it's obvious that Gerald and Daisy hate him. I'm giving him his own backstory and have some dramas in his life. That are obviously being observed by Gerald since it's a first person account.

So yeah that's the overall gist of my story. I love using my imagination like that, I like to make up characters and stories that are very detailed. If I had the patience they'd become 500 page epics, but so far they are a few paragraphs here and there.
Ah! I forgot to mention, my imagined worlds and stories even have their own soundtracks! I find songs that would fit in really well with certain characters, or pieces of music that would be good for the opening sequence of a film. The current soundtrack for this story if it were a film is this:
Placebo - Running up that hill
Ultravox - We came to dance
Simon and Garfunkel - El Condor Pasa

Oh my god I'm such a saddo.

Me too! Tell them to "GFThemselves" if they don't like it, they don't have to read it. I have Worlds I've created of my own and I refuse to let anyone destroy them and neither should you, Ackman.

CockneyRebel, KyleTheGhost and MONKEY - Thank you all for sharing your worlds! I really enjoyed reading about them. I love hearing about the inner worlds of other people, especially fellow people who have ASDs. :) I hope more people will be willing to share their worlds as well.

OK! As I said before, the characters who dwell in Aspergeria are all of the imaginary friends I've had over the years. As most people on here can probably tell, the characters I currently spend the most time with are those from Tim Burton's movies, especially The Mad Hatter, Alice, Sweeney Todd, Mrs. Lovett, Willy Wonka and Edward Scissorhands. The six of them are almost like a secondary family to me. I have tweaked some of their backstories to better suit their roles in Aspergeria.

For example, Alice and I are fraternal twin sisters, who were long-lost up until we were finally "reunited" last year. We are also the reincarnations of a pair of lovers named Prince Alexandrite and Princess Aliciel, who committed dual suicide because, to make a long story short, their love was forbidden. This is based on a Japanese legend that states that two lovers who commit suicide together will be reincarnated as twins. It is interesting to note that in my "past life" as Alexandrite, I was biologically male. This has caused me to become androgynous in my "current life", as this time I have been born biologically female.

Anyway, Alice and I live together with Mrs. Lovett, who has taken us in as her wards. Though she mostly treats us with motherly care, there is a little sexual/romantic tension between her and myself. This is reflective of my crush on Helena Bonham Carter. It's also important to mention that the Aspergerian versions of Mrs. Lovett and Sweeney Todd are not mass murderers/cannibals. Mrs. Lovett is just a widowed baker with a crush on Sweeney Todd (and apparently me), and Mr. Todd is just a widowed barber who is trying to piece his life back together.

In Aspergeria, Sweeney lost Lucy and Johanna in a car accident 15 years ago. While Mrs. Lovett has taken in Alice and myself, Sweeney has taken in Edward Scissorhands. Edward was discovered by Sweeney in a garbage dump. Sweeney realized that Edward's scissors for hands could help breathe life into his failing barbershop, so he took him in. They have been pretty much inseparable ever since.

Speaking of inseparable people, I shouldn't neglect to talk about the Mad Hatter and Willy Wonka. Theirs is the only relationship among the seven of us which is obviously romantic and sexual. Despite this, I still haven't come up with a satisfying backstory of how they met or why they decided to be in a relationship.

Very interesting, Alex! :)

In my world, 'The Ghost', which as I explained in my "The story behind The Ghost" thread, is the identity of my High-Functioning Autism, is my best friend. He looks just like me, but has a whitish, ghostly appearance.

I think a lot of people like to use their imaginations this way, and think up characters and stories. But people obviously don't talk about them, they worry they come across as mad. But writers and film makers have an outlet, their worlds become best sellers and blockbuster hits. People who don't do that just think about it.

I completely agree with you. I wish more people would be willing to open up about their worlds. It's a shame that everyone worries that they will be written off as mad just because they're in touch with their imaginations. Part of the reason why I enjoy talking about my own world is because I'm trying to encourage people to open up about theirs.

My imaginary world is an island nation called Chloroterra ("Chloro" meaning green and "Terra" meaning land).

Chloroterra is a very environmentally-conscious nation, which takes strides to protect and preserve its natural environment. The country is divided into three regions - Arbolia, which is the region of lush forests; Arcadia, which is the region of big cities and where the majority of the population of Chloroterra lives; and Cascadia, which is the region of scenic mountains and rivers and hot springs. The capital city of Chloroterra is Ceres, after the Roman goddess of agriculture.

The culture of Chloroterra is a cross between Celtic and East Asian cultures. Kimonos are very popular for wearing, and many people like to adorn their hair with emeralds (which is the country's official gem stone). Zen meditation is a very common practice amongst the people of Chloroterra, and there are Buddhist and Shinto shrines all across the country. River dancing is another one of the country's pasttimes, and the musical group Celtic Woman is one of the most popular music choices amongst the people.

The official animal of Chloroterra is the butterfly, because it represents freedom. The official flower is the tiger lily. The motto of Chloroterra is "A jewel in a sea of rocks."

Thank you for sharing your world with us, Descartes. :) I have always had a fondness for Celtic and East Asian cultures, so your world sounds heavenly.
