I received an email from someone this morning, someone who I guess is relatively intelligent, and she had misspelt the word 'pseudonyms' as 'suda names'. 8O

First thing: good avatar...

Second:
People make mistakes, and being intelligent does not mean your spelling has to be flawless. On the other hand, I hate popular-phonetic spelling; it makes someone look so lazy.

I suspect that the person in question has only ever heard the word and has never seen it written. So it's probably not really a misspelling, more a cute (but terrible) translation.

Took me a second.

But then I laughed.

The person probably only heard the word for the first time. I don't feel so bad about my spelling and gramar anymore, because I now know that you can be intelligent and still make those mistakes. :)

Sometimes you just go blank - even NT's. Brain burp. Too much data for smooth retrieval.

I remember the word nauseated. I had never seen it written so one day I was chatting nd I spelled it the way it was sounded. I spelled it as "Naziated" and I didn't like he told me it was offensive. Hello I don't know how to spell the damn word and you are telling me I am being offensive? You full well know I am not talking about Nazis. Well he told me it was offensive and then told me the correct spelling of it. Okay all you had to do was tell me the correct spelling of it than giving me criticism.

I'll stop people in chatrooms and ask what they are trying to spell if it is way off - we play human thesaurus until I can guess the right word and help them out. I'm not a perfect speller, especially lately, but I was a dictionary reader as a kid. My recall just isn't what it used to be.
