Anyone else notice the "Psoriasis Speaks" ad?
I know, I'm the one who usually tells people to download ABP or something, but I've just been too lazy to download it on this new computer...
But I digress.

~

It's stupid because it isn't a disorder that affects communication, like ASDs. That's why the people who made "Autism Speaks" called it that: many people think about Autism as a condition that impedes communication; therefore, the name "Autism Speaks" would grab more attention. I don't want to really call it irony, but in the colloquial sense of the word, many people think it's an ironic name. (And don't go all "but we talk when we have Asperger's" on me; it isn't called "Asperger's Speaks", is it?)

~

But "Psoriasis Speaks"?
Really?
Not only are they ripping off the name a godawful autism organization, but the name makes no sense. Psoriasis affects the SKIN. Not the BRAIN (which controls way more than the SKIN does.)

I don't know what the point of the post is, but I guess I wanted to see if anyone else feels like it is a stupid ad; even if you haven't seen it, you can go by what you read above.

Meh.

fudo agrees it's a silly ad, but there are so many stupid ads.. maybe wait for the t-shirt "psoriasis speaks doesn't speak for me, i have psoriasis & i can speak for myself" ;)

I agree. It's a very stupid ad.

I think the most irritating right now has to be paddypower.com. The smarmy bloke who comes on is just the kind you'd want to smack if you were in a pub and he turned up.

All these ads get on my nerves as well but I guess they're what it takes to keep this site running. :(

I agree too--but then, most of the rotating ads are kind of stupid.

I know: think revenue.

My older daughter has psoriasis, and her mother saw to it she could even spell that word by the time she began school as a child. Hence, she has always "spoken for herself" about it ...

... but I think the point of the ad is to simply suggest psoriasis can be easily understood.

I assume it is because if you have the condition you seek to hide it and are made to feel embarrassed about the presumed imperfection in this relatively superficial world we live in. Speaks means here "bring it out of the closet", though I haven't seen the ad you're referring to, but I am getting a hell of a lot of flabby ones instead. Goddam google is becoming everyone's personalized big brother.
