Today I have to cover up for my co-worker and that means lying to everyone who asks why she's not at work. I hate it so much but not because I can get caught. Our boss knows the real reason for her absence and is ok with it. She just doesn't want the other co-workers to know that.

I just hate lying in general about anything and to anyone. Even if it's "for the good cause" or to strangers. The funny thing is that I've been told that I'm a good liar and people believe me when I do lie. I also understand that you have to lie in certain situations. "That's life". But the lying itself leaves me feeling very bad and disturbed inside.

My friends say they feel bad only lying to someone close or about something really important. They can't understand why it is such a big deal for me to lie.
So I was wondering is it just some crazy morals of mine? Or are there more "hopeless truth tellers" out there?

why do it?

i hate lying, i try not to hate because it's 'bad', but dishonesty almost always angers fudo..
honesty is a virtue and is vital to one's integrity.

I was told a good friend would lie for a friend and "it's not a big deal - everybody lies"

I hate lying and am usually very bad at making myself do it. Even when I know I "should" lie or am expected to, I tend to tell the truth. :|

ironically methinks you've been mislead..
if your 'friend' is being sought by someone who wishes them harm then i'd say lying is a 'good' option.. ie 'no i haven't seen them all day' you know? but covering for someone so they can avoid work, seems not so good. it's up to you though. just sharing opinions.

I also hate lying, because I'm so bad at it.

I hate lying. In fact, I'm so uncomfortable with it, I can't even tell a white lie.

I can lie if I have to (and I do today :( ) but I have to force myself and I feel really bad about it. I always think that people can see it all over my face that I'm lying. It's an awful feeling :(
It's so strange for me to see that for some people it comes so naturally.

That is exactly how I feel about it.

I don't lie too often, but it doesn't bother me when people do, unless it's in a serious situation.

Does it bother you when you have to lie?

Yeah, a bit. It's not out of morality though, just the sheer effort of it. I avoid lying to people I actually like, though

I don't like lying too...suck at it. I also hate being lied to...that really gets to me. Plus it takes so much energy to lie...having to keep building upon the first one. Better to just be truthful from the get go.

I hate it. I would lie if I have to but I hate it in general. I also hate being lied to too unless they had a good reason for it.

Up through my teen years, I thought it was fairly unethical to not speak the truth and would avoid telling a lie. I can remember the year after I got out of high school that some high school girls coaxed me into calling them off from school because I had a masculine voice. I finally relented, but ended up screwing it up so badly that I think they got caught and in trouble for it. Since then, I have learned to lie better and especially not offer the truth since most people don't really want to hear the truth. It sometimes feels that relationships with people are all based on half truths and false premises. But I guess that is how people get along.
