Inertia? Difficulty with the transition between awake and asleep? It's what stops me from going to bed even when I'm tired.

I ask myself the same question on the nights that I don't have to work the next day.

Because you are naturally more alert, cheerful and focused during the night, and to go to bed would mean losing the part of the day when you feel most alive?

Plus you can never be too careful when it comes to clowns. Constant vigilance!!

You can't go to bed because you are having an intense craving for pie

because you live in the wrong century- if this were 1950, chances are you'd have less trouble going to bed after whatever kind of day you had. just my 2-cents' worth, not adjusted for inflation. :)

wouldn't a person start having hallucinations after just a few days?

yes, usually, but the above claims are simply impossible in my book.
they might have been in a very sleep deprived state for that long, i simply dont think the brain could handle it(even remotely)
halucinations can happen as early as 40 hours, though that was also under heavy caffeince use, so that might do something.
arrythmia becomes an increased risk, sometime after the halucinations IIRC.

Posting this made me go to bed. Maybe I'll do it again tonight.
