The latest fashion accessories in China are live fish and turtle key rings – and in China they are totally legal!

These trinkets seal the unfortunate fish or turtle inside a 7cm plastic bag, where no doubt the oxygen will become quickly depeleted and there's no way of feeding them.

The key rings are often sold outside subway entrances and train stations.

But, as the Global Times points out, there is no existing animal protection law that would prevent their sale, despite an outcry from animal protection groups who want an immediate ban.

This is like something Ted Bundy would invent. It just looks sick to me.

That's horrible! If animals in general somehow get revenge on us humans, I won't blame them.

I think that's a better fashion accessory than having babies like some young teen American girls do. Those key-chains don't seem much different than poodles in purses.

The purses people put poodles in, do not asphyxiate and/or starve the poodles.

This would be more akin to sealing a poodle in a Hefty Bag and dragging it about.

That's a horrible thing to do to those defenseless animals.

This is far less cruel than the practices involved in producing most Westerners' latest meal. :?

Could be possible, but for some reason I don't really doubt the legitimacy of this.

Yeah, plus it's 4 days after April Fools, so I doubt it's a joke.

Yeah, plus it's 4 days after April Fools, so I doubt it's a joke.

Maybe that's so it would be more believable

^Well, no. Because you don't do April Fool's jokes 4 days after.

About the turtle/fish thing, whyyyyyyyyyyyy? What the hell are these people thinking? This is just cruel towards the turtles and fish, when that animal dies it would be a great accessory won't it. A rotting fish in a plastic case, lovely.

Looking at the link the story is from early March so it's probably not an April Fools still doing the rounds. How long can a turtle live with so little air?
