Yesterday I was at a party and I smoked quite a few cigs, today when I woke up there was black snot coming out of my nose. I've smoked cigs and joints before, this is the first time this has happened. Tried googling it but I didn't find much. Anybody know anything about this?

The ash must have gone up your nose... I can't explain it any better! True fact: When you spend a day in London (especially on the underground) you go home with black boogers!

I used to get black snot when I used to weld. It's nothing that a little nostril washing won't sort out.

I'm pretty sure the black stuff was supposed to end up clogging up your lungs, but instead got caught in your nose. Consider yourself lucky you have a few more minutes to live. =D

This is what I thought of what I saw the title of the thread. The underground must be so manky for snot to turn black.

Hurray for snot!

One time, my dad had both fireplaces going in the two story house that my parents used to live in one December when we were having a party the night before New Year's Eve. My entire family woke up with black snot the next day. The walls in the house were also grey.

Same thing happens to me working on a building site.

Sometimes the external agents from smoking that enter your nasal cavity, cause irritation to the linings in the nasal cavity, which then release blood into the mucous. After it dries it looks black, but is actually dark red. Just another possibility; if it continues you might consider discontinuing smoking to reduce the chances of developing vasomotor rhinitis; smoking is one of the causes of this condition.

Some people think smoking only causes lung problems, but it also can cause inflammatory problems in the nose and sinuses, leading to structural issues like thickening of the mucousal linings, that may result in vasomotor rhinitis. Vasomotor rhinitis is like having a sinus infection 24/7 caused by no allergens; it can become a very irritating chronic condition.

I got major black snot after working as a volunteer fireman. Fortunately, I have a neti pot, which helps my allergies immensely.

That is a very good point. That approach works much better for me than nasal sprays.

I work in a dusty warehouse and move pallets around all night, with truck exhaust spewing everywhere and all. I come home and blow my nose and it's literally all black.

In terms of smoking, though, no idea what could cause that.

I used to get these when I worked as a machinist. Conversely, I've also had white ones after using a power painter, (white paint) and brown ones after woodworking projects. --Consider it better to have colored snots than to have the same particulate matter embedded in your lungs.
