Today, I surprisingly found a new park within walking distance of my house. I walked into this park with my dog, an Australian Shepherd named Jackie, and found myself at the shore of a lake. It was warm, and a warm wind was blowing. The waves from the lake kept crashing into the rocky shore, and onto the grassy bank. Looking at them could hypnotize you. The park was completely deserted and extremely peaceful.

I released my dog and she was delighted to play in the waves. She chased each wave as it crashed into the rocks, then bit it as it broke and frothed. She was perfectly happy, and so was I. I laughed as the waves sometimes reached my feet, and wet my white trainers. I felt a great sense of peace and rightness, and I felt very glad to not have a job anymore. I thought about how Native Indians must have once lived on this shore, and how they must have felt not having a company clock or paycheck govern their lives. I thought about how I would have liked to be a Native Indian woman, hunting for my own food and making crafts all day.

On my way home, I saw many cars pulling out of their driveways as people rushed to drive to their various jobs. I smiled and felt lucky.

I doubt native life was quite all that idyllic, but yes, it sure did beat burning gas to go chase more dollars.
