I hate it when people say "i don't generalize"! I'm not saying that bigotry or racism or whatever is good, but geez, if i had a nickel every time someone told me they don't generalize things .... id probably have at least $50. :)

because let's face it, generalization can be pretty useful. if 98% of a group feel or do a certain thing, is it really that evil to assume a member of that group does as well until proven otherwise?

if i say "Nevada is mostly desert" - am I doing some kind of great injustice by not mentioning the fact 5% of it is forest?

Political correctness is the cult of equality. Equality is good, but PC is equality at all costs, even the truth is sacrificed. With political correctness, every opinion is considered equally valid, which really means no opinion is deemed valuable.

am i the only person who thinks this rabid PC is utter madness?

I think your statement that this is a post-modern cardinal sin is something of a generalisation.

Hypocrisy, hypocrisy. But I agree with the op. Generalizations can get across ideas without all the fluff. However, it can be damaging in some situations.

Interesting stuff. I often wonder about all these hypocrisies and contradictions.

I agree.

I also think political correctness is a way to bully people. Like if someone says something by accident that can be construed as bigoted (but really is completely innocent) the PC police can beat them upside the head with it. It's not nice.

It's only a post-modern cardinal sin for white people, because white people bend over to be politically correct.

Generalizing is good except when it isn't!

- OR -

Generalizing is good, in general.
