This is a comparison, not a competition. No wagering please.

In the 'States we think 200 years is a long time.

In the 'Kingdom they think 200 miles is a long way.

Got more?

When I was still traveling and doing photography work, I was in a far-off city with a woman (photographer) who was of British heritage. While there was some attraction between us, I was already making plans with my future wife. There was no way anything would happen, even though the subject had come up already. I AM a good boy, she respected this and dropped the whole idea.

When we turned in for the night, her room was down the hall in the hotel and she asked if I wanted to "knock her up for breakfast". I laughed so hard, it took several minutes to tell her what I was laughing at and she started to laugh, also. I understood what she meant, but I had to explain the American usage of that phrase, to her. A huge, rolling belly laugh was a very good way for us to dispose of some awkward sexual tension and become better friends at the same time.
