For Christmas or my birthday, I make very detailed lists of what I'd like but no one ever seems to follow through. I get them what they like or most often, they'll never tell me what they want so I wind up getting them a gift card. Like I said, I always make very detailed lists and where it can be found but I'll always get something that I don't really want or need or I won't even get a gift card where I'd like one to.

if someone gave me a detailed list of what they wanted, without me asking them to...i'd buy something else just to piss them off

Hmm. I thought it was expected.

Well, I may have forgotten to say, "when asked for a list, you'd kind of expect them to follow it."

I get what I ask for. My family says I'm hard to shop for so I pretty much have to say what I want.

Usually my parents will ask what CD I'd like and they always get it right. I never ask for anything more than that, so they always give me cash too. However, one year, they got me the Scissor Sisters CD, which I had mentioned, but then bought a Pointer Sisters DVD as well (they're both 70+).

Nope I never get gifts. I only got one from someone whom I had feelings for.

Gifts are too expensive these days. When I give gifts, it's usually a cheap gift card so they can get what they want.

I didn't for quite a bit of my youth until one christmas I actually blew up and told my relatives exctly what I thought of the very feminine gifts they all conspired to buy for a very non-feminine person like me. That changed things, somewhat. Of course, many relatives do still not know what I could want and are quite wrong, but my parents now know to ask what might interest me. In contrast, I ask my parents as well.

When I was young it was hit and miss. I had the parents that would get the gift but it wouldn't have batteries or had a missing piece that made it unusable. I don't really care now because I am older and can buy what I really want. :P

I never got everything I wanted but I have gotten what I asked for. I have also gotten things I didn't ask for but I would end up liking them anyway. Now I don't really ask for things anymore since I have enough stuff. I don't care about my birthday either nor Christmas.

This reminds me of South Park where Cartman was inviting kids to his birthday but he had in his invitation telling them what he wanted so they had to get him that. Then he got pissed when Stan got him something he didn't even ask for in his invitation and ended the birthday party. But everyone else followed through.
